Dinner at Wa Jeal was absolutely the best Chinese food I had was not cooked at home. Fresh, hot, spicy and delicious. Tangerine crispy shrimps, seuan chili-fish cuts, spicy shredded beef, plus spicy but cold mung bean noodles. And the background music was Reggae: The service was also First Class, friendly, helpful and patient. I'll eat here every time I come back to NYC if I can. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Wa Jeal Chili House:
I don't like writing negative reviews because people make their living from the business. However, I got dinner for two take-out. $110. Repeat that. $110 for five dishes with nothing fancy. It was just not on point. The flavors were not well developed. $18 for sauteed green beans starts to become a concern for price. There is really good Szechaun in the neighborhood. But this needs much work. View all feedback.
Got delivery so can't speak to the service or any other experiences inside the restaurant. Delivery was fast though. As far as the food… pretty good. I've definitely had better but it was good. Sauce on the Lo Mein could probably have used a bit more flavor… not sure if it needed more salt or what but something was missing. The vegetable spring rolls were phenomenal however. A bit pricey for what it is but overall a decent Chinese spot in the neighborhood.
I recently moved out of the neighborhood, and I can definitely say that Wa Jeal, from all major restaurants in the hood, is the one I miss most. I can't find anything else comparable. Food, people, service all excellent. I hope to come back soon!
We called late last night for friends who arrived from out of town bit craved some Chinese. My regular place was closed at 10. Was shocked to learn they closed at 9.30. Remember when that would have been unheard of in Manhattan? This place too, was closing bit they were so kind, and took our order delivering a delicious hot meal. They ordered Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. The shrimps were large and fresh, a tofu dish which was light and so delicious, the egg rolls and spring rolls were just as they should be, vegetable dumplings were ample (not thin) and tasty. Someone wanted cod sesame noodles and he dish as quite yummy. All else we ordered was just very nice and delicious. They included plenty of accouchements. The plastics were not flimsy but nice too. I recommend using this very pleasantly run establishment. And , I also thank them being so very kind and going the extra mile. 謝謝
Great venue and the food is spot on. Lived in Asia 8 years and didn't find anything negative to say about the food. Arrived in the are a couple of weeks ago and already been 3 times. This is going to be one of my spots!
I ordered the fish filets in hot chili oil for pickup. It could be that I’m not familiar with this particular style of cuisine but I got a whole fish in chili oil, head, skin, everything! I didn’t hate it tho! It was cooked very well, was spicy, and packaged incredibly well. I wish I had more experience eating fish heads and whatnot cause I’m sure it was as delicious as the rest of the fish I ate but I’ll be back to order something else!
