The homemade pasta is delicious, and the overall dining experience is well-priced. Some patrons have had issues with the service and atmosphere, but the food quality and wine selection are highlights. Noise levels in the outdoor seating area can be a drawback for some guests. Overall, Italian Barrel provides an intimate dining experience with delicious food and attentive service, making it a recommended spot for Italian cuisine lovers looking for a cozy setting.
We had a very mixed experience at the Italian Barrel. We dined there on a Sunday evening. When the waiter came by we let him know that my wife was gluten free. We were very surprised to learn that the restaurant had almost no gluten free options. In addition they did very little to accommodate her gluten free diet, telling us that almost every menu item was preprepared in the kitchen with either bread crumbs or flour. We eat out often in Italian restaurants in the US and throughout Italy and almost never find a restaurant that does not have at least one variety of gluten free pasta. In addition, after we ordered our meal, my wife ended up ordering salads, we heard the waiter reading the specials to another table. We were never told of the specials. On the positive side the wine list, especially the wines by the glass is excellent. They have a wide variety of quality Italian wines. I ordered a ravioli dish which was very good. They were prepared perfectly al dente with a light, flavorful red sauce. While in New Orleans we ate at some of the city’s finest restaurants GW Fins, Galatoires, Commanders Palace, but the Italian Barrel had by far with highest prices of the group. With fewer courses and drinks our meal at the Italian Barrel was our most expensive of the week
It was a birthday... they didn’t acknowledge itWe arrived the host closed the door on us and told us to wait outside.Pasta didn’t taste fresh was chewyAvocado was black on tuna salad so we asked to take home“They accidentally threw it away” we had to wait minutes for a new one after we had paid the billThey didn’t have a bus boy to refill water or removed empty plates....sorry we went
Great food and service. Would recommend it. They have outdoor seating also
Great food atmosphere. A true New Orleans gem! We will definitely be coming back
The restaurant was very quaint. I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli and would highly recommend it. My daughter had the chicken parmigiana and thought it was ok. the linguini in the creamy white wine sauce was excellent though. I would definitely eat there agian
