Service felt a little weird/awkward. But the food was great. We got the trinity, which consisted of three ramekin sized samples of red beans and rice; crawfish etoufee; and gumbo. We also got the blackened shrimp po boy. Shared all of this between me and my husband and it was the perfect amount to be able to try many different things but was also filling. Would come back! What Anthony S doesn't like about Elysian Seafood:
I dislike giving low ratings, but both the gumbo and the red beans with sausage were lacking in flavor. I also tried the curry shrimp; while it looked appealing, the taste was off. The curry sauce was too thick, and the rice was undercooked, dry, and hard. Overall, I felt my $21 tip wasn’t justified. It was a pretty disappointing meal. I’m giving it 2 stars because the staff was friendly. View all feedback.
I paid $20 for the shrimp cocktail and got a sad little plate of 5 limp and poorly cleaned shrimp. They literally tasted mushy, as if cooked from frozen. How can you serve this to people and charge $4 per shrimp??
I rarely complain, but this was absolutely horrible. Over 20 minutes for a sandwich. Took 10 minutes to get a drink and then staff had to come back to ask what size I ordered. BBQ shrimp poboy was more expensive than the price on the menu. It had a few small shrimp. Incredibly bland. Then it was served with basically a cup of oil that had no seasoning. I can't even imagine they would sell something this terrible. Shrimp tasted frozen, not fresh. I would expect fresh large shrimp when paying $20 for a sandwich. Giant waste of time and money. Feel like I was scammed given what I was served.
The food at Elysian is terrific; fresh, perfectly prepared and perfectly seasoned. And the service is over the top great. 10/10 recommend.
Top notch crawfish étouffée! Rich crawfish-favored, and so far the most crawfish meat-loaded étouffée ever seen. As I was a kid grown up from a harbor area, guarantee this seafood place is fresh and delicious.Reading other review recommendations, we therefore ordered some oysters as well. Super cleaned and fresh, no regrets!
Located in the neoclassical St. Roch Market, Elysian Seafood offered a menu of classic (and some creative) New Orleans dishes with an emphasis on local seafood. The Charbroiled Oysters were sold by the half dozen and came topped with breadcrumbs, garlic, herbs, Grana Padano, and butter, which turned into a crispy, umami topping for the juicy oysters, which were laid out on a platter over rock salt and accompanied by French bread, lemon wedges, and cocktail sauce. The Marinated Crab Claws was a small but flavorful ramekin of about a dozen crab claws marinated with olive oil, shallots, peppers, lemon, and herbs. For my main, I got the Coconut Curry Gulf Shrimp, which came with five freshly roasted, head-on shrimp served over a coconut curry sauce, along with rice and cubed sweet potatoes. I especially loved the flavor of the plump, juicy shrimp and the creaminess and spiciness of the delicious coconut curry.
