This restaurant is absolutely adorable. The owner, who also served as our waiter, was incredibly friendly. It was a great experience trying a new type of cuisine. I opted for the Egusi, a beef and spinach stew, while my Mom chose the Jamaican chicken with rice. The menu also offered many options for vegans and vegetarians. Just a heads up, the spiciness level is no joke - similar to Thai spicy. I should have gone for... View all feedback.
What Nubs doesn't like about Bennachin:
Bland, salty goop and defensive service. They must be drowning in debt to pump out such low quality food. They also wait to seat you at a table before SPOT cleaning the disgusting plastic table cloths, and they clean it with regular Windex-which does NOT disinfect. Literally sat down to have someone else’s meal debris flicked at me. View all feedback.
Amazingly delicious, well portioned and wallet-friendly gem in the heart of a place where many of the other eateries feel too fried/salty/oily or designed to be tourist traps. We had the Jamaican Chicken and Kone Ni Mak (beans in a yummy tomato and onion stew with fried plantains and a coconut rice). Highly recommend trying out their iced herbal tea as well. If you go during their lunch special, each plate is only $14. Stumbling upon this lively place that you could tell was run by people who genuinely are proud of the establishment and the food they make was one of the happiest accident we made on this trip. Thank you for the delicious food!
I go here strictly to eat fufu and egusi soup. The dish is so fulfilling. It comes with or without meat. The atmosphere is calming and has great energy. Plus you can't go wrong mixing New Orleans vibes with African cuisine
We stumbled upon this gem because we were searching for vegetarian friendly meal options (of which NOLA seems sorely lacking). Many vegetarian meal items on the menu; some look vegan friendly as well. We enjoyed the Akara appetizer, lentil soup, and the Jama and Yasa dishes. They also serve chilled tea; we really liked the ginger one. The atmosphere was authentic and our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. We had a great time and prices were quite reasonable.
Generous portions, great value, friendly server, beautiful art and African music playing. The seating at the window was so cozy. A simple, filling, vegan friendly meal to sober us up.
We really enjoyed the food here!! The black eyed pea fritters and Hibiscus drink were amazing! I had to save some of my food so I can have it again! Definitely will be back! I also loved how the menu items were so unique and the food was made so fresh! The service and ambiance was also great! Everything was excellent!!!
