Oasis in the middle in downtown. Nice place to work with a computer while having a high quality coffee. The only downside was that an oven in the open kitchen was generating an amount of smoke such that as soon as you come into the store you felt like you have entered to a smoking club. We spent 9.36 dollars each: I had a quiche and a large coffee and my friend had a big scone with a chai latte. View all feedback.
What Kai H doesn't like about Backatown Coffee Parlour:
There was hardly any cream cheese, and I had to get some on my own. The taste didn't meet my expectations at all; I've definitely had better. It could be that it was just too salty for my liking, as it felt overwhelming. I'm not sure I can even finish it. View all feedback.
Staff wasn't too friendly. They had a lot of vegan pastries, but the donut I had was dense and dry. May have caught them on a bad day, but was hoping for better.
It's hard to believe that this was my first visit to Backatown, but alas. It's pretty spacious with lots of tables and room to spread out, but still retains the intimate vibes that we all love coffee shops for. They have a really nice selection of pastries and other food items like sandwiches and salads. I enjoyed the crawfish quiche--the crust was flakey and buttery and there was a nice amount of crawfish baked inside. I love when coffee shops have good playlists and I was vibing with what they had playing. It was a mix of smooth R&B and soul. A friend and I set up shop to do a little co-working and it's a great spot to spend sometime. The weather was perfect and we were able to grab a spot by the open window and enjoy some fresh air. They provide free wi-fi, but it was a little difficult to connect to and the connection wasn't the strongest, but it served me well. Just something to keep in mind in case you're needing to take a video call or something. It's just a few blocks away from the French Quarter, so it's primarily paid street parking in the area. I was able to find a spot across the street fairly easily, but when there are events happening in the city, I could see parking being more of a challenge. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be adding it to my WFH rotation.
Neat coffee shop with chill atmosphere. Highly recommend the chai latte! The turkey panini was good, pretty standard sandwich. The rose pistachio donut was also tasteful ?
I tried the banana but coffee cake, chef's kiss! I also had the macchiato (hot), it was delicious. The staff were friendly and courteous as well. Would definitely recommend this business.
So glad to find this wonderful local coffee shop and restaurant at the edge of the French Quarter. Great food, friendly staff, and the best cafe au lait of my visit (apologies, Cafe du Monde)! The owners have created a lovely, welcoming space and a delicious menu of breakfast and lunch options. It was a treat to spend time there each day during my visit. Thank you for the gracious hospitality and terrific coffee!!
