What Rashad Schuppe doesn't like about Mayflower Restaurant:
This place used to be the go to place for Chinese. Fresh ingredients daily! We got our take out today, dinner for two, the chicken chow mein was brown and crispy on the ends, OLD and maybe 8 shreds of chicken on top. The sweet and sour pork was fresh, except the sauce wasn't coating the meat, there was a dollop poured on top and there wasn't enough to even cover the meat. I really wanted Mayflower takeout for Mother's Day dinner but was hesitant when reading the recent reviews. We decided just to go with it anyways and I am glad we did. The food was great, as always. The sweet & sour pork could have used a bit more sauce, but it was still good. Also we would have liked more than 3 soy sauce for 4 people but we had some at home so it was a non-issue. We'll be back. It's our favorite Chinese food in Nanaimo!
If you like crappy rude service, questionable food and eating from dirty dishes, boy oh boy, this is the place for you! They have a cheap buffet but eat here at your own risk.
The food here is one of the better experiences I've had with "Chinese" food in Nanaimo. It was fresh and less greasy than what I'm used too for this smorgasbord style, comfort food. The restaurant ambiance is nothing special. However, the waitress serving us was very attentive and helpful. Overall I would recommend the Mayflower above other smorgasbords in Nanaimo. Having tried quite a few of the others over the ten years I've lived here, the food is certainly a step above. A pleasant discovery!
It's a shame that this eating place just couldn't seem to make it right. Their so-called service is not that GREAT, management needs an overhaul or complete change, the food which is the reason why we go and keep trying to give this place another chance seems to be getting worse! I love to cook too but man, I use fresh ingredients, etc. What happened to pride in cooking? When you go to a restaurant and pay for the foods and services, you should expect a good return for your money. Anyway, I'm not a mean and insensitive person and don't really like to leave a bad review. I'm just being honest and forthright. Use fresh ingredients, be polite, have some pride and passion in your profession. Is that too much to ask for?

The sweet and sour pork was fresh, except the sauce wasn't coating the meat, there was a dollop poured on top and there wasn't enough to even cover the meat. The beef chop suey had liquid for sauce, it wasn't thickened, and the baby corn was sliced up 1/4" thick.. It's already BABY corn. Amount of food, poor. The chow mein container has shrunk, and none of the containers were full! I'm paying at least $30 for this meal, at least fill the containers.
