What Isaac Reynaud doesn't like about Kingfisher Restaurant:
We have been visiting the Kingfisher restaurant for 15 years, and it has been hit or miss. Unfortunately, yesterday was a big miss and it will be the last time we dine there. Firstly, the staff at the front desk of a resort like this should have a friendly demeanor, but the guy last night was rude and unresponsive. I ordered a $50 beef tenderloin cooked medium rare, but received a piece of well-done pork instead. The... View all feedback.
We were a group of 7 women, an 11 year old and a 6mo old baby. five of us ordered the salmon, but asked if we could replace the wild rice for kartoffels, and we said that the cook refused, so we paid $5...more for a side of kartoffels. the kartoffels were not tasteful and lacked salt. if they pay such high prices for a meal, it should be perfect, especially if the chef cannot replace kartoffels for rice, because it does not please his palate. one of the ladies ordered mushrooms and was told that they don't have left. there were only a few more in the restaurant next to us. the mother and the baby had to go before the baby was cried) so we ordered a laundry board $30.00) and asked if they had to bite it to someone as they had to go. what a disappointment. see the photo. would not recommend this restaurant. the service was good, but the cook, not so much.
We have just returned from 3 nights in halcyon hot springs, where we had the pleasure to eat every night in kingfisher. we enjoyed the halcyon salad, the tuna tartare, the saltspring island mustels, the scallop mushroom risotto and the magnificent black cod, followed by the fondant au chocolat. each dish was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. that was our second visit to halcyon. we came for the hot springs, but we will also return for eating! Don't miss dinner here!
We went to lunch and were very disappointed; the portions were small, the service was illadaisian and they had fled from the bed. the pasta and sosse were uninspired and the olive citrus cake was let through. the Caesar salad was unconventional, but very tasty. we will not go back so many better places to eat in revelstoke or nakusp.
We had dinner several times at kingfisher in this week and loved every single meal really. the zartoin was my favorite, which was perfectly prepared and so tender, I didn't need a steak knife. the cod was melted in your mouth and the bun was so...creative, I'm not sure how to describe it! for dessert, the chocolate for me. wonderful! the chef here is a master. the views of kingfisher are perfect postcard and the personal is attentive to every detail. the whole experience was fantastic. we're coming back!
Food was fantastic. Recommendations from serving staff were amazing and Chef Daryl came out to receive our praises and recommend main course. Food presentation was beautiful. Fresh made bread, oil, and vinegar with dinner service was delicious. Don't usually order dessert, but the sweet potato...pumpkin spice cheesecake was worth it. Wine list was very good relatively small, but definitely covered off the palate. .Would definitely recommend. Thank you Chef Daryl!
