I tried them first, and I've never spit a... read more At first glance, the platter seemed decent, but the first thing I noticed was the strange color of the collard greens. I tried them first, and I've never spit anything out at a restaurant before, but these went straight into a napkin. They were sickly sweet and tasted completely off. Disgusting. The ribs and chicken were clearly leftovers from the day before, simply reheated. The pulled pork was full of fat and gristle. I even had to use a steak knife to cut the pork steak, which is unusual since in St. Louis, we typically use a fork for our tender pork steaks. The brisket was tender and moist, but it had very little flavor. The only thing truly edible on the entire tray was the sausage, which was actually good. I will say that, while the service was slow, it was friendly. I paid my bill and left, knowing I would never return. It's a shame because I know Mr. Mills would never allow things to be this way if he were still around.

It's no surprise they received an award from Food and Wine Magazine. I love wings, and these were definitely among the best I've ever tasted. For dinner, my son enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich that he said was delightfully smoky. I opted for a half rack of baby back ribs, which had a fantastic dry rub. It had a wonderful outer crust and the meat was delicious and moist, with just the right amount of smokiness. Our sides were great, too—rich mac and cheese and flavorful pit beans. As if the incredible food wasn’t enough, the background music was among the best I've ever experienced in a restaurant. As a baby boomer who grew up on the Allman Brothers, Clapton, and the Dead, I found myself in musical heaven. Honestly, this is one of the best BBQ places I've ever visited, and I can’t wait to head back to Carbondale to see my son—though I'll definitely be looking forward to returning to 17th Street BBQ as well! Oh, and of course, I guess I’ll be glad to see my son too!

Food was just meh, and service was rude, condescending with an undertone of racism. Would not recommend.. 0 out of 10.The manager couldn't have cared less regarding our bad dining experience and actually said as such out loud.Too bad they left such a bad impression as my college student and his friends will definitely spread the word to the entire SIU community to avoid this place. Especially if you're a person of color, steer clear

I would try again but it is bot my first choice.
