What Gotthard Weber doesn't like about Cafe Altschwabing:
I really loved this place when i first got to Munich 9 years ago. I hadn’t gone in the last 3 years and in my recent visit i was a bit disappointed with the food. It was good but not excellent and even the lovely...turkish bread they used to bring to the table as soon as you arrive, now was just some standard white bread, like a ciabatta. Not bad but definitely not the same as in the past. View all feedback.
This is one of our favorite places in Munich. You can almost always get a table without a reservation (unless its 11 AM on a weekend for Brunch... then reserve), the staff is great, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is classy and relaxed....The combination of German and Turkish cuisine is really good and they have a lovely small outdoor seating area on the street perfect for sipping a drink and enjoying an evening. The price value is also great!
We went there at Easter 10 o 'clock am for breakfast and ordered tree different breakfasts, two of them very simple (jam, boiled egg, butter, croissant) one with pita-bread, scrambled eggs, tree slices of air-dried ham, olives and some slices of cucumber and tomatoes. The 4th...breakfast consisted of a plate with slices from 4 different cheeses and a boiled egg. All together with a basket of fresh bread for 3 persons. Although the restaurant was less than half-full we waited longer than half an hour for the plates. The drinks were served a long time before the plates. The price for the bigger breakfasts is too high, e.g. >9€ for 10 slices of cheese, and the coffee and juce is not included in the price for the breakfast. Positive: The coffee is tasty, Italian style and the room looks nice. But I think it 's easy to find a better offer in the area -even at Easter-morning.
It's actually perfect for a Sunday brunch, since it's one of the few open in the surroundings. All the Turkish specialities are very close to their equivalent in Turkey. The prices are great and the service fast.
We have been several times here and we are always happy to come back. The place is very nice, traditional building, high roofs, large doors... and the food simply amazing! As every time we go there. Beautiful location on Schellingstraße, this café serves Turkish-style dinner (and lunch). Inside, in a historic atmosphere, the music is a little loud, smoke is coming in from the terrace, and the food is quite well salted, but the service is friendly and meat is well...prepared.
