Description

Nestled on Bloomfield Avenue, this long‑standing, no‑frills jazz lounge is a hole‑in‑the‑wall favorite for locals: intimate, lavendery-lit and anchored by live jazz and a welcoming owner. It’s perfect for mature, low‑key nights and jazz aficionados seeking authenticity, with a small patio and old‑school charm. Expect cramped quarters, sporadic crowds and uneven service, plus a basic drink list. Not the spot for large groups, craft‑cocktail seekers or those wanting draft beer or nightclub energy.

Not fancy. Has had a Montclair liquor license for a long time. Hasn't changed for a long time. A hole in the wall bar with live music and a lot of lavender lighting. When you need a lounge experience that is a classic on Bloomfield Ave, here it is. Cheers.

The first thing when I walked into this bar, I get yelled at STOP! ARE YOU 21? A bit taken back by the yelling, I said what? Simply confused bc why would a bouncer just yell rather than ask for my ID. He proceeded to yell and get aggressive with me until I said I was 33. I would rather be asked for my ID than get yelled at for my age. I am with a bunch of people who drink but I personally do not. When someone in my party went to have a cigarette, the bouncer then told me to check on my friend. So I went outside and she 's just smoking a cigarette. I go to go back inside and he won 't let me in bc he thought my friend was too drunk and I explained that she was just smoking a cigarette. Next time instead of being AGEIST, JUST ID.

I am planning a family reunion after party and I was looking for a jazz lounge. I found DLV in a google search and it seemed like an Black establishment. Since the day was Juneteenth I figured it would be the perfect night to explore this business. I was sincerely hoping this place would become my new Friday night hangout spot since I live close and love Jazz. This was a terrible experience from the start. For starters I called ahead to find out about the dress code and entry cost. The person who answered the phone was extremely rude and seemed bothered by every question I asked. She told me no sneakers and hippies. I ignored the rude phone service and decided to go ahead with my plan to feel the place out. Keeping in mind that I have two weeks to find a venue. When I arrived at 10 PM the place was dead and it looked like the Live band was on brake. There was only one bartender and I asked her if there was a special house cocktail. She rudely told me no as if I had irritated her with my question. It then occurred to me that she was the rude person I spoke with on the phone earlier. I asked her if she can make a Bahama Mama and she replied yes. I replied that I would like that. I watched her go serve two people who she seemed to have known. She continued talking with them almost 10 minutes completely ignoring me. After 10 minutes a couple walked in and she helped them immediately. I wanted to go off but I decided to keep my composure. I calmly asked what happened to my drink and she pretended that she forgot what I ordered. I repeated my order and she walked away as if was going to make my drink. She did not make me a drink and I walked out and spent my money at Just Jake which was live and packed. It's the same dilemma, I want to support a black business but I have deal with bad attitude and bad service. The bright side of this review is that I discovered Just Jake's 30 Park St, Montclair, NJ 07042. This is the place I will bring my relatives to hangout after the family reunion.

I hate to rave Bc I don't want people like the negative commenters to come but DLV is my spot. Great people, unpretentious, live music, no frills. Anyone feels welcome and the owner is a prince among men.

This is another place that I have no idea how it keeps its doors open. Dont get me wrong the bartenders are usually pretty nice.. its just a hole in the wall spot around too many other nice places.. If you are a group of girls this is not your spot. If u are guys looking for girls this is not your spot.. if you are young this is not your spot.. If you are over 40 and want to have a beer in peace this may be your spot.
