We had family visitors and needed some close-by fine dining. The menu was full of fancy adjectives. Words I've never seen before and I've eaten all over the world. I'm guessing they are attempting to placate Toronto visitors accustomed to higher restaurant prices. My son ordered a $42 steak the size of a small hockey puck, and just as hard. I needed the waitress to translate all the flowery, made-up descriptions on the menu, which are supposed to entice the appetite through a palpable portrayal of the expected culinary experience. The Ontario wine, produced by the estate next door, is terrible and should be served with Aspirin, but it was priced like it was from Piedmont, Italy. It's a shakedown. Your partner gets glassy-eyed and you pay $250. If you want good food in Orangeville, go to Forage.

We had an early booking at the Cabin and had a gift card to use ($100). Our server Raj was great all evening. We ordered two glasses of wine and intended on sharing an appetizer, but were informed (correctly) that apps were very small so ordered two. It was a small crostini with crab meat and quite tasty but small for the price. The main course special being pushed was prime rib at $50...I am sorry...no prime rib is worth that amount. We ordered pasta ravioli with seafood. The seafood an sauce was delicious but the ravioli were approx 8 small tubes with some cheese and garlic stuffing. Hardly a main course. Dessert was not outstanding but okay. The bill with one espresso was $150 , so $180 with tip. Too steep in my judgement. What was annoying was we were told our gift card had been used, which is not possible since the card is taken when used. We settled the bill on my card and then spent 20 minutes at the desk getting THEIR mistake rectified. Now we still have a $100 certificate to use their on overpriced food. Maybe we will just get a spa treatment instead. Sorry Hockley Inn.

Please see my review on Hockley Valley Resort for full details. This restaurant is an incredibly rare and unique experience. If you're heading to Hockley make sure to check out Cabin and definitely try the Chefs table. Farm to fork food, locally harvested wines, and a charmingly talented Chef Fracchioni will wow you!

My wife and I were so happy to finally be able to visit the Hockley Valley Resort as a belated anniversary celebration, something that had been on our list for quite some time. What we didn't expect was to have such an incredible dining experience during our stay. We are pretty serious foodies and will go out of our way to try a good restaurant. We had already been to Mrs. Mitchell's, Forage, and Beyond the Gate among other top-rated picks in the area, and didn't realize when booking that Cabin 1865 was also a top reviewed resto. The night of our reservation, before going down, we did look up the menu and noticed the reviews were quite high but after having eaten there, I honestly don't think their current overall rating is high enough. Cabin 1865 is easily the best restaurant in Dufferin, its only competition for the top spot being possibly Mrs. Mitchell's. The entire experience was five stars from the time we walked in, being presented with an amuse-bouche before we even ordered, a simple yet perfectly balanced selection of appetizer and main course options, ending with such an exceptional dessert selection that we had to try more than one. But the best part wasn't even the food itself... The service we received rivalled the best hospitality experiences we've had in world class cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, NYC, and Paris. This mostly came down to one person: Jillian. She is an exceptional asset and truly made the night one we will never forget. We will mostly certainly be returning for future special occasions.
