Try the Vegetable Steamed Buns! Seriously the best thing I've tasted in a very long time
4 of us had the Prime Rib at $39.95. The two ordered medium rare were about 1/4 inch thick. Impossible to cook to medium rare. The two who ordered it medium well got meat that was about 3/4 inch thick. None of the 4 were as tender as they should have been.
Smith and Porter had a “live music” event, and it was nice. Jazz guitarist Fred Espanoza gave his debut at Smith and Porter, and he was especially worth listening to when he played without his percussion background. He is good. Food was nice, although I’d like to see a gluten (and maybe lactose free) dessert on the menu. I love seeing the restaurant thriving, onward Smith and Porter!
Special occasion (New Year’s Eve) dinner was enjoyable but more than needed or expected. Menu included full dinners with wine, entree, vegetable, potato, salad and large dessert. We would have preferred ala carte options. Warm, large popovers with honey butter were excellent. Prime rib, carrots and potato were very good even though menu specified mashed potatoes and scalloped potato was served. Partner’s butter nut ravioli was too salty to be enjoyed. Dessert was a large serving of frosted red velvet cake topped with large chocolate covered strawberry. Each of us enjoyed two servings of cake the next day.
Located near the theater, this restaurant is best visited early. The service is friendly but not very attentive, making it less than ideal for a pre-show meal. The menu is small and features ordinary dishes, which is surprising given the limited selection. Overall, the restaurant seems to cater mainly to hotel guests.
