Wow, what a hidden gem! Tucked away on a random corner in Bay View, Goodkind is definitely one of the best restaurants I've visited in the Milwaukee area. I stopped by for Sunday brunch and was seated immediately, though the restaurant wasbustling. If you've had the cocktails here, you understand why it was a semifinalist for the James Beard Award for best barprogram in 2022. Every drink was very creative and absolutely delicious. I ordered the lemon poppyseed cake and poutine as myentrees. The cake was perfect in its simplicity, I definitely recommend. The poutine was also excellent, and my waiter indicatedthat they apparently trial out a new recipe every week. I can't wait to come back and try their dinner menu!
Outside dining was spectacular, service was well timed and attentive, hand crafted grenadine made a stand out Shirley Temple (Kitty cocktail), and the entrees' ingredients were layered like perfume notes: subtle at first but together symphoniclyflavorful.
We walked in on a whim and were welcomed warmly and kindly. I had the “Wood Dog” while we waited for our food. I had the scallops and my husband had pasta. It was an amazing meal! For dessert we had the chocolate stout cake and it did notdisappoint! We sat at the bar and the bartender was also kind and very attentive.
Great cocktails, beautiful food, but just a slight miss in each dish (phyllo could’ve been warm/goat cheese lacking, no tomatoes in panzanella, clams extremely spicy, galette had only a single spoonful of cherries in it). For the price, was good, not great.
I love going to Goodkind. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and cute but still definitely a great date night spot not too casual. They have nice indoor seating options with a cute patio. On our latest visit the service was sadly abit off, so I can't give it the five stars I'd like to. The service was pleasant, but not around much. After our food wasdropped off, we didn't see anyone until the bill was provided. Unfortunately I'd maybe attribute this to being short staffed,so hopefully next time is better. We started off with the Puffball mushroom. Definitely a fun thing to be able to try and itwas tasty! Maybe a little over fried but still good. I wish the portion size had been better for the price though. I had theSummer Sangria which was delicious, and we tried a few beers. Their beer selection is nice but the prices are too steep. Theyare definitely more expensive than at the breweries themselves. There is only one option under $8 High Life. It would benice if there was something like a $5 or $6 Spotted Cow. For entrees, we went with the Tuesday night burger special which wehad been really looking forward to trying, and the Wedge salad with caramelized onion bacon pork sausage. The burger was goodbut I wish it had come out hotter, and was a little bigger. For the price point with no sides you definitely need to order anappetizer or another plate. The burger that day had chicken nuggets, beer battered french fries, American cheese, ranch, andBBQ sauce a fun combo. The salad was delicious and definitely the star. The sausage was very nice but there was justsomething about the romaine, tomatoes, and dressing together that was magical. Goodkind is a great spot for dinner and we arehappy to have them in Bay View. They are always worth a visit. Don't sleep on the champagne battered oyster mushrooms anabsolute favorite!
