My first experience with Ethiopian cuisine at Mudai Ethiopian exceeded my expectations. The menu offers a savory selection, and the meat combo is a must-try—each meat was flavorful and expertly cooked. The salad was rich and perfectly prepared.
Well what can I say…. Definitely an interesting experience. I am a big fan of Indian food so I’ve been told several times that Ethiopian has some similar flavors and are very rich in spices as well. The only thing I didn’t like was that the breadto eat and scoop the food with was cold. I was told that this is the traditional way of eating but I was not a fan of eating hotfood with cold bread. The staff was friendly and very informative when I was making my selections. The reason this place isgetting a 3 stars is because it was a bit dirty. They definitely should do some kind of spring cleaning there. It only made meimagine how the kitchen is and what type of hygiene is enforced in the kitchen. I definitely don’t mind eating in a modest lowkey restaurant. But hygiene is everything!!!
I absolutely loved the Ethiopian cuisine at Mudai Ethiopian. It has a remarkable resemblance to South Indian flavors. We each enjoyed a Sambussa, which is similar to a Samosa but filled with lentils, and shared two vegetarian combos among the three of us, which was more than enough. The Injera, made from teff, is a healthier choice. The side dishes included in the combos were delicious. The customer service was excellent. Be sure to scan the QR code to explore the menu options. Highly recommended!
Another of the many understated San Jose neighborhood joints--really, a hidden treasure. Have come here quite a few times, but yesterday was the first since the beginning of the pandemic. Glad to see that it's still the same. Great food, friendly andrelaxed service.
Food: 4/5 Service: 1/5 We ended up staying until closing because the service was incredibly slow. It took us three hours to leave the restaurant. I don’t believe the staff intended to be so poor in their service; they just don’t seem like typical restaurant employees. They were very kind people, but if I return, I’d probably order takeout. They couldn’t keep track of our individual orders, so we had to split the bill evenly. The food was decent, and it was my first time trying Ethiopian cuisine. I wish the restaurant all the best, but I hope they improve their service.
