It’s very affordable (the vegetable combo is an incredible deal), the food quality is excellent, and the staff is always friendly and eager to help, even if they aren’t the quickest with things like refills. While their competitor, Zeni, located on the Saratoga/Santa Clara border, might have a more authentic vibe with traditional woven tables and seating, I prefer Mudai by a long shot. Recommendations: definitely try the vegetable combo, where you can choose four out of five items, all of which are fantastic. Almost anything with lamb is a winner as well. And don’t miss the ginger tea—it packs a punch (which is great if you’re a ginger lover like me). This place is excellent for vegetarians and lamb enthusiasts alike. If you’re planning an outing with vegetarian friends from India, I highly recommend it. Most of the Indians I know haven’t tried Ethiopian food, so it can be a unique shared experience. Just a heads up: because of the eating style, things can get a bit messy, so maybe save this for after the first date!
