I wanted to love this place, but ultimately fell a little flat for me. We started with the mussels and the brussel sprouts. The mussels were my favorite dish of the night. Fresh and vibrant and comes in a creamy white sauce with poblano peppers. Flavors were great! The brussel sprouts were good, nice and crispy. I struggled most with the tacos, and after all it's a taco spot... There were 4 of us so we ordered 3 a piece and had a pretty good selection of the offerings. I had the pork belly, duck and cauliflower. The pork belly was ok, the meat was on the drier side and I wasn't getting much from the toppings to help the cause. The duck and cauliflower came recommended by the waitress so figured I'd give it a shot. I was intrigued by the duck taco but wasn't going to commit without a recommendation. It again was ok, luckily the Brie added some creaminess to it. Lastly the cauliflower taco. This has a lot of potential but was so salty. The cauliflower is roasted well and goes well with the peanut sauce for a different spin on this but really couldn't get past the salt factor. Three of us had margaritas and could swear there was no alcohol in them. Good flavor and fresh lime just looking for a hint more of alcohol... I would give 5 stars for the vibe and the staff! It's super cute and great for a date night or happy hour after work. Overall, it has some potential and hope they will continue to work out some of their taco mashups.
I arrived yesterday having driven by so many chain restaurants. Thought I would give this place a try. Walked in to a beautiful ly designed interior, relaxing music and lovely greeting from staff. I selected two non taco items and could honestly not believe how delicious they were. Their was another patron sitting near me who had two taco plates and she was equally impressed. My wine was excellent!! And even though this restaurant is 45 minutes from where I live we will be back within a couple of weeks, guaranteed. Grateful for this oasis in a desert of chains!!
My first time at Midtown Taco was excellent! Great service! Great food! Sadly, I cannot say the same for my return visit. I ordered the same meal as the first visit, hanger steak, except this time it was served with a plain baked potato instead of potato gratin, as advertised. When I asked I was simply told they ran out. Ok. That happens. The steak and brussels were still good. It took over 30 minutes to get drinks after asking 3 times. We also ordered tacos and I requested a kids quesadilla. I was told that I could order an adult quesadilla. I requested a kids size since I had already ordered a meal. I was then told they didn't have any quesadillas. So, not only do you have potatoes to serve baked, but no gratin potatoes, now you're telling me that you don't have tortillas and cheese? You disappoint me Midtown Taco!
As if that wasn't enough, the older woman kept walking around and constantly staring at us, which not only felt very unprofessional but also made us extremely uncomfortable. The food itself was mediocre at best; they didn't have any homemade hot sauce or even a decent hot sauce—just sriracha. Honestly, the food wasn’t even the main issue—it was the behavior of the older woman. If she is indeed the owner, she should really be embarrassed. I won’t be returning, solely because of her unsettling demeanor. It's important not to make paying customers feel uncomfortable.
