Great experience at Weidmann's. We were there a little before 1:00 PM on Wednesday. Did not have to wait to be seated. It was mostly full when we arrived, was almost empty when we left. Lots of memorabilia on the walls. Gallery of Mississippi authors on the stairs to the restrooms. Elevator available. Everything was clean. Service was quick and friendly. Food was excellent.
A for effort but C- for the food. We had a great server, and I appreciate the effort to present a dignified place in a town with economic struggles. But, the building was in some disrepair and the air smelled heavily of mold. The artwork on the walls was nice. However, our food was uninspiring, and I left feeling hungry. I got the crabcakes, and they were okay at best—gooey and flavorless. Also, two somewhat okay crabcakes for $30? Not impressed.
I first visited Weidman s 30 years ago, a memorable time in my life. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and bought one of the Clay Jars with the hand made peanut butter that was synonymous with this institution. Today I went back and was again totally pleased with this Historic Restaurant, great food and service, but no more Clay Jars with peanut butter! Oh well, can't win em all! This place has been going since 1870 and I'm sure it will keep on rolling after I'm dead. Meridian seems to be surviving pretty well when other Mississippi Cities look like a war zone, I drove around Vicksburg this morning, it was depressing! What is wrong with our Southern States, our towns are crumbling. Any way I had a great bowl of gumbo and some terrific ice tea. The hostess and waitress were attentive and well spoken. It's great to be able to go back to places that don't change over time, you can relive, for a second or two, your past. This place is excellent Check it out.
Passing through and my son chose this. Historic building and restaurant, casual to dressy, we were made to feel at home. Linens are covered for easy changing between guests. Took server recommendations and very much enjoyed the meal, the atmosphere, the service. Left with lunch for the next day.
