The pasta carbonara was rather dull and flavorle... read more The first time we visited Piola's it was for lunch. We had a wonderful pizza. This time we returned for supper. The pasta carbonara was rather dull and flavorless, with a very heavy cream sauce - not at all the way I used to have it routinely in Italy! To add insult to injury, the pasta was overcooked, a huge no-no in an Italian restaurant. The salad had a nice helping of pear and candied nuts, as well as a decent dressing. The service was fine, but not exceptional. Overall, a bit of a let down compared to our first impressions.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the staff was... read more We stumbled on this place seeking shelter from a sudden rainstorm, and it was a felicitous happening! The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the staff was very amenable, providing excellent service. It was just lunch, so we had pizza and drinks, but the rinks were excellent, with little touches that set them apart from some other places. The pizza is one of the best crusts in Mérida - something that is hard to find in a town that seems in general not to have a clue what makes a good pizza crust. This was thin and crispy and tasty, and perfect complement to the fresh ingredients on top and superb cheeses. I have lived in Italy and was really longing for good pizza lately. The prices are not low by Mexican standards, but they are reasonable for this quality! We will definitely be back.
