We have been visiting Merida and surrounds since 2006. So many good and bad restaurants have come and gone, especially during the pandemic. We of course enjoy the local flavors and always try to sample some during our trips. Katun ended up being a good Yucatecan food option. Conveniently located directly across the street from three large, popular hotels and in Centro Merida, it was suggested by our local friend and dining partner. We were not disappointed. Our dishes of Cochinita Pibil with bottomless corn tortillas were savory and very filling. Although the dish of Queso Relleno was tasty, there seemed to be a bit too much sauce which overpowered. Several glasses of white wine, beer and waters were refreshing on a very hot day. Their Flan Napolitano para compatir amongst the three of us was a nice ending.

The place looks great with pictures of famous local motes and buildings. I had the omelet de katun for breakfast, which was a great choice. The omelette was thick with lots of filling. The jamon and queso filling was perfectly salt The coffee in the breakfast paclage was also good.

Amazing service from the waitresses(ask for Don Carlos) matches perfect with the amazing experience of trying local food for the first time !! They would guide you through each dish , ingredient, sauce(spicy but not excessive), beverage and dessert. Try Papaya's dessert! Unbelievable!! It took memories back from my trip to Brasil and their papaya cream !!!

Food was delicious. Best Sopa De Lima we had the entire time we were in Merida! Service was very friendly and prices were affordable. Highly recommend!

Staying at the Fiesta American made stopping at Katun an easy decision seeing as we only had to walk five minutes to get there, especially in the heat. It was quiet when we entered, but service was efficient and very friendly. We had the cochinita pibil, relleno negro, and Maya sampler, which also included the pibil. It was a lot of food and so delicious. The pibil was tender and mild, the relleno was deep black and spicy, and the sampler included items we may not have ordered prior to then, but we will in the future, especially their version of blood sausage. So good! Even though this is listed as a moderately priced restaurant, everything we had, including beer, horchata, limonada, chips, dips, tortillas, and tip came to $32.00US for two people.
