Merewether Surfhouse - MEREWETHER
Merewether Surfhouse
Description
Visiting this restaurant seems to be a hit or miss experience, with a mixed bag of reviews. Some customers have criticized the poor service and quality of food, while others have praised the lovely location, generous portions, and friendly staff. The views of Merewether Beach are outstanding, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The outdoor seating area is particularly popular, offering a great place to enjoy a meal or drinks while soaking up the sun and atmosphere. Despite some inconsistency in service and food quality, many visitors have reported positive experiences and would consider returning. Overall, it seems the restaurant has its ups and downs, but the stunning views and relaxed beachside vibe are enough to draw people back in.

This has to be one of the most desirable places to be seen at and enjoy in Newcastle. The scenic ambience is unparalleled, the food and service excellent, and the variety of generous eating habitats fit all occasions from outdoor coffee to formal dining. Not to be missed.
Fantastic position on beautiful Merewether beach. Restaurant food is good though not excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Went here for a birthday lunch and had to drop items before hand. The young pointy faced woman with closely cropped hair and glasses spoke to us as if we were a major inconvenience and treated and spoke down at us even when we tried to assist her in giving correct party numbers. She was rude, arrogant and was evident she was bringing her own problems into work. Strangely once on the floor during service she managed a smile, however being the face of a business means good service and interpersonal skills at all times on duty. To be honest if she worked for me she would now be unemployed. Said staff member also smashed dishes on the floor during service. The restaurant is overcrowded with little movement for people. The only nice thing was the view and we can thank Mother Nature for that not the restaurant. I ordered the prawns for entree and they were bland with little flavour and the accompanied sauce was even more bland. I ordered steak for the main. I ordered medium rare, it came out medium and was cold, rubbery, fatty and in general a terrible cut of meat. The mash was flavourless and grainy. The food was appalling and the overcrowded room made for a steamy gross atmosphere. The food and drinks were overpriced for the quality and the poor service that was received. Most of the wait staff were trying their hardest but could tell that they too were struggling with the crowded atmosphere. One person in my party had to return their food and lost their appetite due to a hair in their meal. They removed the food and her meal from the bill, however a restaurant that is going to have snobby and arrogant staff in leadership roles should really aim to offer high quality, well cooked and fresh food. I will not be returning here and will be encouraging others not to bother. The restaurant seems to have an inconsistent deluded ego about its reputation and what their establishment offers. Very confusing place. There are better fine dining establishments in the Newcastle area that will not sting the pockets like this place and will provide a much better customer experience.
What a delight! We had a tasty meal alongside a beautiful view. The staff were friendly when ordering and quite helpful. I would recommend this place as an easy dine or take-away establishment.
