Aoyama - MENDHAM
Aoyama
Description
Aoyama offers a mixed but memorable neighborhood experience: sushi and General Tso’s draw strong praise for freshness and flavor, while other dishes and consistency have slipped for some diners. Service ranges from attentive bar itamae to uneven front-of-house experiences; takeout and delivery are convenient and wheelchair accessible. Longtime fans note a decline from the restaurant’s early, exceptional run, yet many still return for reliable favorites, gluten-friendly options, and a clean, pleasant dining room.

Terrible sushi. Tasteless tuna and Avacado roll. And colorless. Kings has amazing sushi. Fresh vibrant colors tasty! 1/2 the price. Done with Aoyoma Chinese and Japanese! Food: 1
Be careful to order sushi or a standard Japanese entree at this Chinese/Japanese restaurant. If not you may be in trouble, as we experienced the non-Japenese entrees can be very bad, and the staff will not agree with you.We ordered the Japanese entree Beef Udon and the non-Japaneae entree baked Black Bass at the restaurant, just because it looked attractive on the menu, and our server agreed with our choice. The Udon entree was delicious, and even had very nicely marinated and cooked beef as well as a rich tasty broth. Unfortunately, the Black Bass entree was the opposite, as it was not fresh, and not cooked well, with a mushy consistency. When we complained that we found the non-Japanese entree sub-par to the server she told us she would let the manager know. She then told us the manager disagreed with our complaint and would not remove the entree, but would give us a free dessert. We agreed and received the smallest free dessert we have ever seen, which was three small soup spoons with a small scoop of ice cream on each spoon.Beware going to this restaurant if you may consider ordering non-Japanese.
Best Chinese Japanese I’ve had, from their green tea with toasted brown rice to their soups, their general Tso is always a good balance of spice to sweet, very accommodating with gluten allergy for my partner. They are always nice and we tend to catch going once a week at this point, very good every time
