Sekisui - Memphis
Sekisui
Description
This Midtown Memphis Japanese restaurant earns praise for high-quality sushi, sashimi and tempura, an expansive menu with daily specials and vegetarian options, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with outdoor seating. Many diners find the prices fair for the quality. However, experiences vary: service can be slow or inattentive, portions and roll construction inconsistent, some sushi had tough nori, and there are occasional unexpected closures.

Not very impressed by this place. The menu has plenty of options, but everything we ordered was mediocre at best. The seaweed they wrapped their sushi in was like chewing on leather and the rolls are very small. One of our rolls only had everything it was supposed to have in it on half the roll. We asked for a bowl of just plain noodles for our toddler and they said that they couldn’t do that so we ended up paying for chicken and noodles the kid wouldn’t touch. Service was unimpressive and very slow. This is not anywhere we will come back to.
I arrived 40 minutes before closing just to enjoy a dessert. I called ahead to confirm that it was okay to come in, and I even arrived 15 minutes earlier than the time the person on the phone specified. However, when I got to the door, I was told that they were closed and wouldn't let me in. I wish they had been truthful over the phone, as I would have preferred not to make the drive if they weren’t actually open.
