Was Zeina Alwafai at Derae a mag?
Incredible Food and Hospitality: From the moment we walked in until we left this hidden gem, everything was flawless. Mohamed, our host, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. What Foster Fadel dislikes about Derae:
The service is quick and the food is consistently fresh. However, it is disappointing that the online menu prices are outdated and do not match the current prices. I selected a $12 meal from the online menu, but was actually charged $19 when I picked it up. There was no apology or discount given for the discrepancy. View all feedback.

Incredible Food and Hospitality: From the moment we walked in until we left this hidden gem, everything was flawless. Mohamed, our host, was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. He treated us to complimentary appetizers (Bajiya sambas) and recommended the Fuul, Lamb with Rice, Chicken with Rice, and Ethiopian Veggies Combination. Despite being four health-conscious individuals who work out regularly, we decided to indulge a bit on a Sunday. We also shared two pieces of delicious warm Baklava for dessert. I will definitely be returning and recommending this place to everyone! <3
Incredibly delicious. Can't recommend it enough! Very friendly atmosphere and service too.
Great food and great service I always come to get the best East African food in Memphis.
Great Ethiopian food. The decor is humble and the service is friendly but not intrusive. I am looking forward to trying breakfast there one day soon.
Nestled off the beaten path, this Ethiopian gem offers a delightful culinary adventure marked by fresh, authentic dishes and warm hospitality. While the eccentric owner passionately curates the dining experience—often personally selecting meals for guests—there are occasional hiccups, like mismatched menu prices. However, the savory flavors, particularly the fuul and tender goat meat, shine brightly. Diners are treated to generous portions, complimented by delightful appetizers and warm baklava. Despite a few service quirks, the welcoming atmosphere and attention to detail make it a must-visit for those seeking delicious food and a unique dining experience.

From the beaten p thread of the park highland is this small place not to miss! Fast attention was paid when we let the personal know that broken glass was on the walk outside. it was gone before we were even ready to place our order! my man shaved about the tenderness of the goat meat, hanid, served with vegetables and basmati rice. I had celebs with cauliflower and lenses incredible heat, which is shy and stays! we'll be back soon!
Eating is absolutely delicious. very authentic taste. owner has a great personality and serves with enthusiasm. he will recommend options for those who are unfamiliar with Ethiopian foods. price is excellent for quality and portion size. 5/5 without doubt.
Very delicious food. not sure what to expect from it, because I never had Ethiopian food. it was a great selection of vegetables and meat. most of them are about $12 for a escape. small, stone place very friendly staff. it defines a hole-in-the-wall style space. very clean too. a certain attempt if they are looking for a mix in their normal routine of eating the place. great if you love choir and if you don't. they will turn off the heat (flamvor) when they ask. again fantastic. 5/5 on food safe.
This restaurant is a fantastic spot for a relaxing Sunday morning breakfast. The Ethiopian breakfast offerings are truly delicious and feel just like homemade comfort food. The fuul, a breakfast dish made with beans and served with warm flatbread, is especially tasty. The hot tea is flavorful and sweet, and the quality and value cannot be matched by any other breakfast spot in the city. The service is attentive and welcoming.
I live around the corner from this place and love smelling it's aromas on the weekends. I've only tried the samosas (sambusa), and they are AMAZING. I think they're $1 each, and come in a couple different flavours (potato or beef) The owner is very friendly and always wants to please. Highly recommend!
