Pomelo Rooftop is a vibrant and sun-soaked rooftop bar located on the corner of Bourke and Russell streets in Melbourne CBD. Drawing inspiration from 80s Miami Art Deco and Memphis design, we boast wacky shapes and bold colors. Run by the talented team behind the experimental cocktail bar, Bouvardia, Pomelo is dedicated to delivering unique and flavorful creations. Our menu features a variety of playful slushies like Japanese Slippers and Blue Lagoons, perfect for sipping on while enjoying the sunshine and stunning views of Bourke Russell. We also craft, carbonate, and can a selection of canned seltzers and spritzes, creating a sustainable closed-loop program in collaboration with Bouvardia. **Discovering a New Rooftop Retreat: A Mixed Bag of Experiences** Nestled in the heart of the city, this new rooftop bar offers a unique ambiance with stunning views of the CBD. Despite its charming setting, many patrons found the environment somewhat sterile and unfinished, citing a limited drinks menu and inadequate shelter during inclement weather. While the bartender's friendly service and inventive drinks earned high praise, the bar struggled with operational challenges typical of a new establishment. Although the atmosphere was peaceful, the lack of essential offerings and shelter could detract from the overall experience, leaving potential clientele longing for more on sunny summer days.
I arrived at the restaurant only to discover it was a construction zone and was turned away at the rooftop entrance. It would have been appreciated if they had informed me and canceled the booking in advance.
This charming bar boasts a fantastic setting with views of part of the CBD. It wasn't overly crowded on a Wednesday night, and the selection of beers and wines was quite good. The only minor drawback was the smell of fried food drifting through the rooftop area, likely due to a nearby kitchen exhaust fan. While I personally didn't mind it, some members of our group were quite sensitive to the odor.
It was quite peaceful during our visit, but the bartender was incredibly friendly and helpful. While the atmosphere wasn't quite our style, we truly appreciated her positive attitude. The drinks were lovely, and there was a nice view from a few floors up.
