Reviews summary
Cookie offers amazing food with a wide selection that is sure to satisfy any palate. While some reviewers noted that the service was lacking at times, the overall dining experience was positive. The atmosphere is lively and a bit noisy, making it more suitable for casual dining rather than business meetings or romantic dinners. The extensive drink menu, including well-crafted cocktails, adds to the overall appeal of the restaurant. Despite some minor shortcomings, Cookie is a highly recommended spot for those looking to enjoy delicious food and drinks in a vibrant setting.
Was Overpriced at Cookie a mag?
Everything was delicious except for the broccoli rice salad which was a little bland. The music was loud, but that's the kind of vibe of this place. The drink lists are extensive and would be a good reason alone to go here. Book early or sit at the bar. View all feedback.
What AmandaS dislikes about Cookie:
This has been my 3rd time at Cookie and the food is always amazing! However the server was not attentive to us at all, she looked bored and was not very helpful when we asked her for recommendations on the menu, and how many dishes we should have. We finished our drinks before the food was served and she did not ask if we wanted more, nor filled up our water glasses until we finally waved her down to ask. By the time... View all feedback.

Tried this restaurant after I beat my mate at x goal in Malvern with a clutch putt, as it was the only place open in the area for dinner (12am).Dishes were fairly pricy but vibe was great and atmosphere was good. My partner had the lamb cutlets which were nice and my mate had the pork belly which was also great!I chose the pork platter and boy did it leave a lot to be desired. First of all, it stated on the menu it was a pork platter, when it arrived it had 3 bits of pork belly and half a spicy pork sausage which had recycled through the restaurant 3 times beforehand. To have 2 pork cuts on a pork platter was disappointing enough, until I learned there was tofu on the plate as well. Why would a meat dish have tofu on it, it does not make sense, my mate tony Allen was puzzled at this. Thirdly the platter had more cabbage on it than Pete Duff's cabbage patch. The waiter explained before I ordered that it would be difficult to finish the platter as it was large. It was difficult to finish because there were only about 3 foods on the plate that were actually eatable, the rest were recycled cucumbers and 14 kilos of cabbage.Over all the meals were great apart from the platter, will be returning but next time I'll order differently and drink more stubbies to enjoy the meal.
You know I love Thai food, but it's kinda the same across restaurants all over Melbourne. Don't you think? So what was I expecting from a grungy Art Deco type of big old building, containing a Thai cuisine restaurant hidden up the end of a winding school-block concrete set of stairs.....and with the name 'Cookie'? Well, Nothing great. To be perfectly honest. I was so wrong. Cookie delivered the best Thai food I think I have eaten anywhere. Ever. And I've been to Thailand multiple times. The menu is extensive and the prices are higher than average for Chinatown....not outrageous. But the presentation, quality and flavours of all four dishes we tried was outstanding. And I imagine we could have picked another four and been equally delighted. What a fantastic lunch my friends and I enjoyed today. I'll be passing on my compliments for weeks to come. Well done Cookie!
Swanston Street is one of the oddest streets in Melbourne, it never seems to hit any particular note in terms of style of food, shops or otherwise. Then there is Cookie, the place that is always jumping, has brilliant food and drink and you think - walking up Swanston Street was worth it and once you are up those stairs in Curtin House it is an oasis of cool on all sorts of dimensions. The team make you feel right at home and are right on it in terms of looking after you. Questions in relation to the menu and drinks answered in detail.Baked Scallops, Pomelo, Coriander & Chilli plus the Betel Bliss Bombs DIY- Betel Leaves, Peanuts, Lime, Coconut, Ginger, Onion & Dried Shrimp with Sticky Shrimp & Coconut Sauce were sensational starters for our meal. Tangy flavours and brilliant balance.Main courses of Fried Snapper, Bok Choi, Tamarind & Fried Shallots with the tamarind making the taste really rewarding and Green Curry, Chicken & Corn Dumplings, Yard Beans & Basil rounding out the meal. And we chose a pinot grigio to match the food and it worked really well. I'd recommend getting in early evening or book a table, you would be disappointed if you missed out.
Simply loved it. Was recommended to us by a local Friend. We walked in at 19.30 and were luck to be given a table immediately ( had been warned of a waiting time ). Great selection of beers and amazing food (Ordered the pepper snapper and minced beef with Thai basil which were great - but the salmon and avocado salad was so good). The place had a great lively and happening feel to it. Would love to come back.
Food was a little disappointing, I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while now based on recommendations from friends. I was totally underwhelmed. For a start the waiter we had wasn't very helpful, I asked his suggestion about what he would suggest as a side to go with one of the dishes we ordered and he said that it was fine by itself, it wasn't as when it arrived it was just chicken on a plate and nothing spectacular. I wouldn't recommend this place or I wouldn't return but my main was nice.

The food was amazing, a good selection. The waitress we had wasnt particularly helpful in our ordering process however it worked out well in the end. The restaurant itself is pretty noisy so probably not an ideal setting for business conversations. Not cheap but not too expensive either the food was delicious!
I've been to Cookies a couple of times and so far, the food's standard has been increasingly disappointing. We ordered the prawn firecracker, curried soft shell crab and crispy pork belly curry. The star of the night was the prawn firecracker- the spring roll itself was nothing to shout about, but the coriander and avocado dip was amazing. But the positives stop there. Not only did we have to wait almost 40 minutes for our food to be served, the crispy pork belly was definitely not crispy at all and the waitress had made a mistake with last order and served us a seafood curry dish instead of the curried soft shell crab. We were not given much of a choice as we were told that making the dish we ordered would take too long and the waitress tried to convince us that the seafood curry dish is just as tasty and would give it to us at a discount. Overall, it was rather underwhelming considering their dishes are not that cheap- there are definitely more affordable places out there serving quality Thai food.
Catching up with some old friends at Cookies was a great experience, though I think there is scope to reduce Butter and Sweetness sugar) in the dishes.
We took the option of having a banquet (8 people). The food was ok some really good, other dishes average. What I don't like is being ushered out by 7:45 and refused any desert or coffee. I understand that this is the way restaurants are going these days, but it makes for a very unpleasant experience at the end of your meal. We had to go somewhere else to enjoy more cocktails, dessert and coffees. Not going back.

Had a friend's birthday party here on a Saturday night. Private venue was so great. The set menu was delicious and with different flavours that all guests could share. Service was lovely and very detailed focused. The only thing I would suggest is I have the volume not to loud it was hard to hear and talk. I mean people are there to chat more than to hear music right? Anyway definitely a place to go back to! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $60–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
