Tried this restaurant after I beat my mate at x goal in Malvern with a clutch putt, as it was the only place open in the area for dinner (12am).Dishes were fairly pricy but vibe was great and atmosphere was good. My partner had the lamb cutlets which were nice and my mate had the pork belly which was also great!I chose the pork platter and boy did it leave a lot to be desired. First of all, it stated on the menu it was a pork platter, when it arrived it had 3 bits of pork belly and half a spicy pork sausage which had recycled through the restaurant 3 times beforehand. To have 2 pork cuts on a pork platter was disappointing enough, until I learned there was tofu on the plate as well. Why would a meat dish have tofu on it, it does not make sense, my mate tony Allen was puzzled at this. Thirdly the platter had more cabbage on it than Pete Duff's cabbage patch. The waiter explained before I ordered that it would be difficult to finish the platter as it was large. It was difficult to finish because there were only about 3 foods on the plate that were actually eatable, the rest were recycled cucumbers and 14 kilos of cabbage.Over all the meals were great apart from the platter, will be returning but next time I'll order differently and drink more stubbies to enjoy the meal.
You know I love Thai food, but it's kinda the same across restaurants all over Melbourne. Don't you think? So what was I expecting from a grungy Art Deco type of big old building, containing a Thai cuisine restaurant hidden up the end of a winding school-block concrete set of stairs.....and with the name 'Cookie'? Well, Nothing great. To be perfectly honest. I was so wrong. Cookie delivered the best Thai food I think I have eaten anywhere. Ever. And I've been to Thailand multiple times. The menu is extensive and the prices are higher than average for Chinatown....not outrageous. But the presentation, quality and flavours of all four dishes we tried was outstanding. And I imagine we could have picked another four and been equally delighted. What a fantastic lunch my friends and I enjoyed today. I'll be passing on my compliments for weeks to come. Well done Cookie!
