What User doesn't like about Casa Besta:
This short message to inform the owner that the service was very poor (too insolent arrogant). The food is in the average range, but as I was upset by the service, maybe my judgement is not correct. View all feedback.

We had been walking around for hours and were all very hungry when we found this lovely out of the way restaurant just off Chapel Street. We were given a friendly welcome, which was lovely, but even better was the food. Every dish was delicious, and the helpings were generous.
This gem of an eatery is on a little side street near the Prahan Market. Our dinner there was so delicious! I enjoyed the best lamb shank that I have ever eaten. It was served over coucous, with a rich carrot sauce. My companions also really liked what they ordered. As much as the food, we were so impressed with the owners/chef. They are an Egyptian couple who were so gracious, kind, and eager to please us.. Excellent service. Since we are American with a bit of confusion regarding Australian tipping, we asked the owner how to add our gratuity. She actually told us not to tip them- that it was their pleasure to have us dine with them. Of course, we did tip. The ambience is low key and lovely. When you are ready for dinner in South Yarra, have a go at Casa Besta.
Great burgers and coffee just what you need after a long day or lunch good menu and service very unique flavor of coffee and the best lamb burger ive ever had n proper chips to go with it
It's not often I go home and feel compelled to write a review of a restaurant but I did tonight! I went to Casa Besta from my friend's recommendation, we shared the mixed grill which was a succulent selection of grilled chicken and lamb on a bed of rice and salad. It was so tender, just delicious! And we didn't stop there! We shared a serving of the traditional Oum Ali which is essentially an Egyptian take on bread and butter pudding, made with croissants-croissants! I want the recipe! Definitely saved the 'besta' for last and next time I will have the Oum Ali all to myself!.Friendly and welcoming service, this place is a little Mediterranean gem just off Chapel st!
