Sub City - Marshalltown
Sub City
Description
Sub City has earned its reputation as a local favorite in Marshalltown, offering fresh, generously stacked sandwiches that rival even the largest chains. Diners rave about the quality of ingredients, friendly service, and homely atmosphere, enhanced by nostalgic 90s tunes. However, patrons note long wait times, particularly during peak hours, and a cash-only policy that necessitates planning. Despite past controversies regarding customer service during the pandemic, many still cherish the unique ordering and packaging experience that maintains sandwich freshness. A visit to Sub City promises hearty portions, delectable flavors, and a true taste of local culture.

I absolutely love this place! I prefer it over Subway. The prices are very reasonable, and you can get a whole French loaf of bread—it’s fantastic! They have all the extras you want, including drinks and desserts. Highly recommend!
As for parking, it can be challenging in downtown Marshalltown, as parallel parking on the street isn’t always easy to find. There are free parking lots available, but be prepared to walk a little ways.
I eat there every week and always try different subs. They're awesome! You definitely have to try their desserts—especially the fluffs, they're incredibly good!
I forgot pics, but I love this place. I moved here last year and it 's one of my favorite sandwich shops. Everything is super tasty, although I didn 't dig the cheeseburger chowder. It lacked seasoning. They have a seafood pasta that is out of this world, though. I 've both dined in and ordered takeout. The inside is very clean and they have good vibey tunes playing. The takeout experience is really cool because they will cut your footlong into 4 pieces and ask if you will be eating half later. They take the later half, wrap it in plastic wrap, wrap it again in wax paper, and write the name on the sandwich with the word later. This is genius. I went in there, got a cordon bleu. I ate the now half when I got home and didn 't eat the later half till the next day. It was almost as fresh as they had just made it, and it sat in my fridge all night. I think that was my favorite part. Thanks for going the extra mile.Note to new customers: they don 't take cards. Cash or local check only. But worth a stop at a local ATM.
