Lavarella is located in the same valley as Rifugio Fanes, the often recommended stop for the second night of the Alta Via 1 trail. We hiked here from Rifugio Sennes, our first stop on the Alta Via 1. It was a shorter hike than others...on this route and we reached the rifugio easily by 13:30 or 14:00, leaving Sennes at 8:30 that morning and making stops along the way. This was our favorite overnight stop on our multi-day trek! Lavarella is located in a beautiful, peaceful valley with grassy meadows and some small lakes/ponds. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, rooms and facilities were very clean, showers were warm, and the food was the best we had in the Dolomites (dinner and breakfast were amazing, they have a homely style but really pay attention to detail A side note about the surrounding rifugios and hikes: We found the hike from Rifugio Pederu the least scenic path on our trek, and would recommend doing more than just this leg of the journey and back. We hiked from Sennes to Lavarella to Lagazuoi, and had excellent scenery and paths for most of the trip. If you were to hike from Pederu and then go back there you would miss some of the most amazing views...just a thought. I highly recommend Lavarella as an overnight stop and hope to stay here again, possibly to base ourselves here for a few days and do day hikes. Lovely, memorable rifugio!!

Everything was perfect: a stylish rifugio with spotless facilities and great food. The owners pay a lot of attention to details: the room are tastefully decorated, even if tiny. The staff is very friendly. The atmosphere is welcoming and calm. An excellent spot for those...who walk Alta Via 1.
