Was Emma Hodges at Decker a mag?
Interesting historical building, but the room itself was more like a normal modern hotel room. Clean and adequate, no weird smells or mysteries (although the place is almost certainly haunted . Didn’t get to try the restaurant or lounge at all—they have strange and inscrutable hours of operation(? . Rooms: 5 View all feedback.

What DeeDee Specht dislikes about Decker:
The room was clean, and the beds were mediocre, but the pillows and shower were nice. Unfortunately, breakfast was a disappointment, so we ended up going to McDonald's instead. The new owners have closed the restaurant, which is a shame because they used to serve a fantastic breakfast. We didn't visit the bar during our stay. We had stayed here 10 years ago and it was a five-star experience back then, but sadly, the... View all feedback.

Great historic feel to the building, beautiful woodwork that you just don’t see in places under $100/night usually. Still use old school metal keys on a key ring, I like that. Our room was clean, comfortable, the window opened, parking was easy and free on the Main Street. New ownership in the recent past, we were told by the locals drinking at the bar. Staff is from west India, they have a good thing going, hopefully they can keep this historic building and business alive! Ps restaurant is closed currently but the bar is serving frozen pizzas and the similar modest bar foods. Bar was open from 5p on Fri sat sun only Food drinks: Bar was open downstairs with reasonable prices and karaoke (Friday nights until 1030p)

This hotel is quaint. Our room was small but very clean. It reminds me of a bed and breakfast, although the breakfast is very limited. The owner is really nice and even put a small refrigerator in our room for us. I like that it has a very rustic charm. Walkability: In the heart of downtown Maquoketa. There is no restaurant or bar. The breakfast was just granola bars, bananas, cereal and yogurt. But it is a very cool old building. Rooms: 3 Service: 3 Location: 3 Hotel highlights: Romantic

Fifth owner in 6 years. Restaurant is now closed. Rooms are expensive for what's offered. Very clicky. No thanks Rooms: 1 Service: 1 Location: 1

We love this hotel. Dog friendly, nice cushioned carpets, quiet, helpful and friendly staff. My main critiques would be that we only initially had one set of towels even though I booked the room for 3 people, we didn't have a spare roll of toilet paper, so I had to go ask for another, one tube of soap isn't enough for 3 people to shower and wash hands for 3 nights (a bar of soap would have been nice , and while it was super nice to have breakfast delivered to the room each morning, it was only enough for 1 person and we had 3 people in the room. We will definitely be returning because there's so much we like walk ability downtown is fantastic, it's close to a park and the fairgrounds, and the staff is super friendly and helpful (one helped me carry my bags up the stairs on the one night the elevator was out of service much appreciated!! . Rooms: Comfortable rooms, quiet, cushioned carpeted floors. Nearby activities: Bakery, liquor store, and brewery within 1 block of the hotel! Fairgrounds a short drive or a decent walk away. Safety: Double locks on the bedroom doors. Front desk always staffed. Small town safe. Walkability: Hotel is right downtown, so it's super easy to walk and shop all of the downtown and get back to the hotel without having to drive. Food drinks: Restaurant was closed for renovation, but the Maquoketa cave bar was open Saturday night. It's pretty cool down there. Lots of drink options (canned drinks, hard spirits, and cocktail options . We got our ice for our room filled down here too. : Noteworthy details: This hotel has a really neat historic feel to it. It is very welcoming and quiet.
