I had reserved a table for myself and my wife. What I noticed immediately when I arrived was that the beer garden was only moderately busy in the evening, despite the great weather. I ordered a schnitzel baked with paprika sauce and fried potatoes. The side salad is charged extra. My wife had ordered a salad plate with zander fillet and some bread. The drinks were a shandy and a bottle of water. After the drinks were brought, I realized that the shandy was too warm for me in the summer months, and my wife had to serve herself the water. (Oh well). Then came my side salad, which was fine. Then the food arrived, and the waitress informed us that the bread for my wife's salad would be charged extra. The waitress herself didn't quite understand this. To be clear, we're talking about a few slices of farmhouse bread cut up together. My meal was fine, but you can't come if you're very hungry, especially given the amount of side dishes (in my case, the greasy fried potatoes). My wife's entire zander fillet turned out to be full of bones. Unfortunately, my wife didn't complain right away, but continued to pick through the fish until she finally lost interest. We complained to the waitress and asked her to pass it on to her boss. Unfortunately, he had better things to do with conversations at neighboring tables and didn't want to face our criticism. I'm no longer surprised that the place wasn't full. Given the unjustifiably high prices and the owner's unprofessional behavior toward a customer with a complaint, I can't recommend this place in any way. Apparently, this is no longer an isolated incident in the restaurant industry. Keep it up, and we'll be sitting on a park bench with our own sandwiches like we did in the 80s and enjoying ourselves. As long as the overall package—quality, quantity, attentiveness, customer focus, and ability to take criticism—is right, I'm willing to pay a good price. Other customers who have eaten there in the past have also criticized the high prices, the quantity, and the fact that all side dishes have to be paid for extra in older reviews

The food was very tasty and the portions were definitely not too small. The innkeeper and staff were very friendly and attentive. Gladly again

As soon as you walk in it smells like a toilet!!! And that very shortly after opening. I pulled myself together because of my company, but felt disgusted the whole time!!

The Restaurant Zur Waldpforte is my absolute favorite restaurant in Mannheim. Here you can find the best schnitzel, sauces and homemade spaetzle!
