Feedback
Nestled in a clean atmosphere, the restaurant showcases an eclectic menu that ranges from tacos to fish and chips. While some dishes, like the buffalo cauliflower and street tacos, have garnered praise for flavor, others fall short, notably the Kalua pig and overcooked tenders. Service issues, with reports of slow response times and staffing shortages, are a recurring theme. Although some guests appreciated their drinks and burgers, complaints of soggy sides and salty entrees highlight inconsistencies in quality. Overall, the space holds promise for casual gatherings but needs refinement to fully satisfy discerning palates.
Clean atmosphere. We kind of knew what to expect once we sat down and saw the menu. The menu is all over: spaghetti, tacos, fish chips etc. The Caesar salad was predictable and had a good amount of dressing. It came with a lot of grilled chicken (I cannot recommend the chicken). We also opted for the Cuban sandwich which came with frozen crinkle cut fries. When I see “Public House” on a map when searching restaurants, we usually happen across a bustling Gastropub with an elevated menu. This seems like it would be a great place for outside evening drinks if you were meeting with a lot of friends. If I try this place again while passing thru, I would try the pizza or tacos next.
So we stopped here on our way home because of the rave reviews. Not much was good here. Only 2 people running the front. Seated quickly but that was it. Took awhile to get our beer order in and even longer to get our food order in. I opted for the kalua pig because I'm a huge kalua pig fan. We go to Hawaii once a year and we fill up on kalua pig and poke. This however is a roast pork. Desperately screaming for salt especially for a true kalua pig. Zero smoke and banana leaves flavor as well. The dipping sauce or whatever its supposed to be is a lot like teriyaki. Not something that goes with kalua pig. Mac salad was meh. I'm guessing its not made in house. There version is not even close to real Hawaiian kalua pig. Now if you want roast pork then here ya go. Plate was complete saturated in standing water as shown in one of my pictures. My wife wanted the fish and chips so she asked if they are battered on house. We were told no they are frozen. Seriously.....$20 for frozen fish and chips?!?! Couldn't believe it. So she opted for the Cubano sandwich. Carl the cuban Ruiz would roll over in his grave. The same flavorless roast pork as the kalua pig. The bun completely wrong and not pressed so it was soft. Best part of it was the banana peppers which have not been on any Cubano we've ever had. At least the frozen French fries were not bad. We would not recommend this place. Plates look great until that first bite if you can tolerate the mediocre service.
Absolutely one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in my entire life. Ordered the ribeye and shrimp and a glass of wine. The steak was the fattest and toughest cut of meat I have ever seen. It and the shrimp were over seasoned and so salty that even though I hadn’t eaten anything all day I could barely eat it. Poor service on top of the bad food was the topper. Will never return and would advise against this place at all costs.
We were pleasantly surprised by the chicken and pork nachos at Madras Brewing. The food arrived fresh and hot, and each order was enough to satisfy two people without leaving anyone hungry. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I would definitely recommend it.
