Apple Basket - Macon
Apple Basket
Description
Packed, hometown diner serving generous breakfast and lunch plates with friendly, high-energy service. Standouts include pork tenderloin sandwiches, sweet-and-spicy wings, wraps and grilled chops; onion rings and desserts vary. Patrons praise quick, welcoming staff and a central downtown location, though quality and wait times can be inconsistent—occasional overcooked steaks, disappointing onion rings, no real dairy half-and-half for coffee, and a 3% credit-card fee. Reasonably priced overall; ideal for casual locals, travelers and family meals when you’re not on a tight schedule.

We were just passing through and happened upon this gem. Our waitress was very friendly. Food came out quickly, hot and delicious. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Wish we lived closer.
Great and varied menu. Friendly and helpful waitresses. Atmosphere is like being among welcoming neighbors. We ordered: chicken salad sandwich (lots of chicken, delicious with grapes); juicy cheeseburger, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions; Ruben on swirled rye, thick with meat and all the fixins. All at a good value.
If you are ever traveling down highway 36 through Missouri make sure you stop at the Apple Basket Cafe! The day we ate there the food network was filming for America's Best Restaurants. Our waitress was excellent and I actually saw her running twice to go get the food. This woman should win the Best Waitress in America! The onion rings, fries, blt meatloaf were the best. We will definitely be back again!! Keep up the good work and thanks again to all for the wonderful lunch!
