Wilbur's Mill - Macomb
Wilbur's Mill
Description
Tucked into a charming historic home in Macomb, Magnolia serves hearty steaks, seafood and memorable specials in a cozy, lively setting. Owner Lisa and a friendly, attentive staff create a welcoming, fun atmosphere with porch seating, outdoor entertainment and brunch offerings. The kitchen impresses with dishes like lobster bisque, lobster mac and filet mignon, and it handles large groups well — though there are occasional inconsistencies (overcooked veggies, a dry rib, or a missed appetizer). Still, it remains a beloved local gem worth a visit.
Feedback
From the owner Lisa to the waiting staff, Magnolia exudes confidence and fun. Our group of six dined in the bar area on the closing night for WIU. Despite the busy atmosphere, the owner made a point to accommodate us. She specifically requested Jenna to give special attention to our table, and Jenna delivered with skill and speed. The food was outstanding. We ordered grouper (with a special J rub), salmon, and lemon chicken, accompanied by the house special lobster bisque and garlic crushed red potatoes. Both the duck and the soup were excellent, while the veggie sides were boiled just a bit too long.
We decided to give Magnolia another try because we believe in supporting local businesses. Unfortunately, my main rib was completely dry; it appeared to be cooked to a rare doneness, yet there was no juice at all on the plate or when I cut into it. It was also quite tough and difficult to chew. Lisa, the owner, was bustling around, chatting loudly with both guests and staff. This was Magnolia’s last chance for us.
We were in Macomb for a wedding visit after the COVID restrictions were lifted. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to eat. Locals recommended Magnolias, and we made a reservation which allowed us to be seated right away. The waiting staff was very friendly, though it seemed like they were a bit overwhelmed. Our waitress accidentally forgot to place our appetizer order, but it wasn't a huge issue. My husband ordered the filet mignon with potatoes and really enjoyed it, while I had the marinated salmon, which was just okay. We decided to skip dessert because we were too full. If we find ourselves back in the area, we would probably give it another try.
We had a wonderful meal in Magnolias! From salad to steaks everything was delicious! The owner and the staff we are very nice and friendly! We are out of town and wish Magnolias was close to us! We enjoyed the outdoor entertainment and had a nice family evening! Thank you. Lisa, you put us in and feel so welcome!
