Stillwater - Lowville
Stillwater
Description
Nestled in a picturesque location, the Stillwater Restaurant offers a blend of charm and culinary appeal, albeit with mixed reviews on service. While the inviting ambiance and stunning views enhance the dining experience, inconsistencies in staff attentiveness have been noted, particularly involving the owner. However, the restaurant boasts a talented team, with one waitress shining in her service amidst challenges. Diners rave about the delicious food, including standout dishes like the ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches and Marian's famed lasagna. Despite some service mishaps, many express a desire to return for the welcoming atmosphere created by Marian and Joe Romano.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at an excellent snowmobile spot today. Unfortunately, it started to rain afterward, so we returned to the trailer, packed up, and headed home.
I stopped in for a beer and had a lovely experience. The staff was welcoming and attentive.
My partner and I had heard good things about Stillwater, but our experience was quite disappointing. Jess, a very friendly waitress, started off by helping us, but then a rude woman approached and abruptly took the menus from us, telling us they had switched to dinner service. She dismissed Jess and insisted on serving us herself. This woman seemed unaware of what drinks we had ordered and never informed us if the dishes we wanted were available—she just placed the order without checking. Before our food arrived, she mentioned the table was reserved for another couple and that we would need to move, even though it was only 4:15 and the other guests weren’t due until 6. It felt very unprofessional and unnecessary. She never checked on our meal or offered refills but eagerly chatted with regulars, clearly ignoring new customers. Concerned, we asked Jess who owned the restaurant, only to learn that the woman serving us was actually the owner. It’s easy to see why the place is for sale; she seemed completely disinterested in the business. To add to the discomfort, a large dog kept wandering in and out of the kitchen and approaching tables. After we finished eating, we waited over 15 minutes with no sign of the owner. Jess noticed and went to find her. When the owner finally came over, she appeared annoyed and told us Jess had said we didn’t want dessert and were ready to leave. Despite her homemade desserts, we confirmed we were ready to go, largely because the entire meal felt awkward and uncomfortable due to her attitude. The portions were small for the steep prices—one appetizer, two drinks, a cheeseburger, and a BLT cost $70. We felt sorry for Jess, who was great, but we won’t be returning.
It's always a great experience to visit for drinks and food. The service is reliably friendly.
