I really enjoy Ascot. If you're looking for forced friendliness and a feeling of being overly special, this place might not be for you. However, if you’re in the mood to relax, enjoy some good wine, and listen to pleasant melodies, you’ll have a great time. The staff is friendly, but they keep it casual and aren’t overly eager to impress you. Conversations tend to revolve around wine and cocktails. The music can be a bit loud if you’re hoping for a quiet chat, so expect more of a club-like atmosphere. It’s also worth noting that some of the one-star reviews seem like they should be five stars!
Fantastic little bar located in a beautiful historic building in Wellington. The bartender was excellent and provided great recommendations. We enjoyed three glasses each during our visit. I highly recommend this spot for a cozy night out with friends or a loved one.

We were intrigued by their carrot dogs, which we mistakenly thought were plant-based hot dogs. In reality, they featured an entire carrot, and surprisingly, it worked! The texture and flavor of the carrot were truly amazing. The buns were soft and warm, and the toppings were perfectly balanced—neither overwhelming nor lacking. Everything was delicious, and our cold red wine paired wonderfully with our meal. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, with just the right level of music to set the mood. If I lived in Wellington, this would definitely be my go-to spot. Highly recommended!
