Fantastic service and some great food We really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. Fun little bar/grill with a real neighbourhood feel. Our waitress had excellent suggestions and knew the menu inside and out. Great selection of beer on tap to boot! I had placed my order but saw a plate of the Guiness meat pie go by and quickly changed. Glad I did The puff pastry crust was light and flakey and the insides were piping hot and yummy. We also had one of the daily specials mac 'n cheese with lobster and shirmp. While the lobster was a little chewy, the pasta and shrimp were excellent. When we mentioned it our waitress wanted to bring out an entire new plate, and when we insisted that was not required she insisted on treating us to a dessert. Now that 's customer service! Lots of other intriguing items on the menu for our next visit!

Despite being Long Beach natives, and moving back to town 6 years ago, neither my husband or I had ever been to the Eldorado, even when we were kids (FYI it is technically now named The Eldo though the original Eldorado sign that I remember from my childhood is still there . But when a friend 's band was playing there on a Saturday night last fall, we decided to check it out. This is more of a sports bar atmosphere (plus bands there on weekend nights , but the menu is varied. You can get bar food such as wings, but they also have some nicer dinner options (such as filet, rib eye, and lamb chops as well as South African specialties. On that first visit, we all enjoyed our dinners, as well as our friend 's band, and since then, we have gone several times for dinner and the band, as well as for lunch on a couple of occasions. I really enjoy the meat pies (Steak N Stout, Shepherd 's Pie, etc. and the Durban curry. I wouldn 't say that this is the best restaurant ever, but it is definitely better than most sports bars that I have eaten at. The biggest issue in my mind is that it tends to be very noisy I can understand it being loud when it is packed during a big game (such as the NFL Playoffs last weekend or when a band is playing. But the acoustics of the building must be off somehow, because it seems pretty noisy there even when there is no band and it isn 't very busy.

We enjoyed a pleasant and laid-back dinner on the patio. Everyone was satisfied with their meals, and the service was excellent. I’ve become a fan of Peri-Peri chicken, which is a moderately spicy dish from South Africa.

This place claims to have South African origins and influence. Other than some of the decor and a few sprinklings on their menu, this place is nothing more than a bar. My family went here for brunch recently, and made the mistake of going on a Sunday. The place was filled with rowdy young locals who were already drunk at 9:30 in the morning. It took over an hour to get pancakes and sausage. The waitress was also rude and didn't seem to care that our children were starving while she hung out with her friends at the next table. Avoid this place, there are much better eateries in the Long Beach area.

We may have lost the live music, but we gained a wonderful outdoor patio with a garden. It’s still a fantastic spot to catch sports, especially rugby. The garden extension is a lovely place to enjoy a meal while people-watching. On a Monday, we took advantage of the bar special—a pie and a pint. I went for the steak and Guinness pie, while my wife chose the chicken pie, both served with gravy. Just a heads-up: adding vegetables or Gunpowder Fries will cost extra. We're really looking forward to indoor dining reopening because we miss eating at the bar surrounded by all the African wildlife. As always, the service was quick and friendly. A tip for future visitors: due to social distancing measures, they’ve lost half their dining tables, so it’s a good idea to make reservations for the weekend. You can reach them at (562) 421-4590. If you found this review helpful, I’d appreciate a thumbs up!
