I walked up from New Cross Gate and passed through Telegraph Lower Hill Park. Before entering Telegraph Upper Park, I decided to relax and have a snack at The Hill Community Cafe. I ordered a bacon roll and tea, which were both tasty. The cafe, as its name suggests, is designed for the community. Overall, it's a nice place to stop in between the two parks during a hill climb. What User doesn't like about The Hill Station:
The space is nice enough and the food isn't actively terrible, although it is overpriced for what it is (and cold). By far the worst thing, though, is the service. The staff are, frankly, rude. They avoid eye contact when they dump the food on...the table, and glare at you if you ask them for even the most reasonable requests (I had the gall to ask for salt and pepper). Visited early at opening time during the heatwave. A male staff member was putting out the rubbish bins and then afterwards opening the doors with apparent difficulties. When the counter was manned, I asked for a coffee for myself and a sausage roll for old. These were stored pre wrapped in an open basket container on the counter top. I saw no chill cabinet. The sausage roll was supplied by the lady staff member and arrived warm to a barely tepid level of less than open and in a cardboard tray. The young man then proceeded to serve my coffee. At no point did he leave my sight between his evident arrival and rubbish disposal, nor did he ever wash his hands. The tables we tried were sticky and some still had crumbs from previous diners. At checkout, was a display of cloth bags for sale at child height, the front one emblazoned with a slogan including the word F*ck. I paid reluctantly as I did not wish to upset my yr old who was awaiting the sausage roll and left both the coffee and dumped the sausage roll in the nearest bin.

We were in need of sustenance after scaling Telegraph Hill on our bikes. The corned beef hash (that day's special) was absolutely delicious as was the pudding. Will definitely be back.
This very special unique Community cafe run by the dedicated lovely tireless Jacqui Shimidzu, has a very special place in my heart, since early June this place has played a crucial role in helping with my mental health recovery on so many levels, to...the extent this place feels like part of my home. I have made some lovely new friends and met so many interesting engaging enlightening people from all walks of life. This is such a tranquil place, if you want to experience good karma to chill out, read a good book, with a delicious homemade creation be it on your own or with your friends, family, kids this is the perfect place. Open seven days a week from With a varied heavily weighted Vegan/Vegetarian friendly menu, including a great range of coffee's and soft drinks which are quite often locally sourced. Also do check out the jars of mouthwatering honey with a very distinct flavour, the lovely Agnieszka who works at the cafe, her family in Poland own a farm with bee hives. This honey is delicious and an ideal gift. On October when I had one of my regular menu favourites which is soup of the day always with the cheese toastie which uses locally baked bread, everyone was treated to an impromptu piano recital by Hugh Harris, and this is just part of the delightful charm of this place the sense of community is very strong and right across the full age spectrum, the Mum's with toddlers, very evident one of my visits were so quiet, no idea how you gals do it! The Hill Trader shop I have found to be excellent for so many gift's and that everything is locally created is very positive so do support, remember gifts are not just for Christmas. The Hill Station Microlibrary I have found to be an excellent source for some great reads including even a few DVD's, and it's all FREE! There is also a programme of regular evening events which more often are community based and quite varied do check out facebook The Hill Station Page Group to get a flavour, you can also speak to lovely Jacqui who is quite often at the cafe to find out what's going on
