We came here for a birthday dinner while visiting KC from Nebraska. I am always looking for unique, local places and this was it. Local, farm-to-table goodness, all in a beautiful castle setting. What Chris J doesn't like about White Trash Patio:
We came to this restaurant for Restaurant Week, having heard a good deal about the owner, Renee Kelly. We were unpleasantly surprised. I ordered the simple salad which was about a half cup of greens with a bit of balsamic vinegar reduction dripped on the plate. My wife had a demitasse of pumpkin bisque, and then the entrees came. Her Sassy braised beef was about what we get making pot roast at home, except ours isn't... View all feedback.
What a magical place to dine at! It's nice to have a castle near by to eat at instead of going all the way to Disney World lol Just by driving up to the restaurant was already a site to see! As we entered I was even more fascinated about the decor and the stone walls. Felt like a medieval princess in her castle. Just can't get over how Disney Movie-esque the atmosphere is. I recently dined at Cinderella's Castle in Disney World, so nice to have that kind of experience here, well without the Disney branding lol but the magic is nonetheless still here. Alright enough about the atmosphere and all my feelings LOL time to review the food. We came for Sunday brunch and we were not disappointed! For appetizers we were served complimentary beignets. They were served with jame and lightly sprinkled with sugar. They were fresh outta the oven and boy were they delicious! Nice crisp on the outside and moist soft in the inside! Not too sweet and pairs perfectly with the caramel fused jam. For the main course, I got the Pretty Darn Good Breakfast: two poached eggs on a herb biscuit with crispy pancetta, hollandaise served with cottage fries. They have duck eggs daily, so I had it substituted with the regular eggs. Omg since all their ingredients are farm to table...everything was fresh! The eggs were sooooooo good! I love how much bigger they are and richer taste in the yolk. They poached them quite perfectly! The pork belly slices that came with the dish was seasoned perfectly and fried to a crisp! One thing that we all were surprised about were the blue potatoes! They stated that they got them from a local farm! So now I have a new obsession over poached duck eggs and blue potatoes! Will definitely come back for dinner! They said that they have special duck egg creme brulee on some days! Might come back for restaurant week too! Ugh love this magical place!
My wife had been trying to find a time for us to check out Harvest for months. One of the things that intrigued us what the farm-to-table emphasis. We finally were able to make a reservation for June 11, 2015. The decor is very nice. The old Caenen Castle is used as a nice frame from which to create a casual upscale dining atmosphere. Given the heat of the day, we chose to eat indoors but there is outdoor seating. We both chose the sweet and simple mixed greens salad, and it is just what it says. A solid start to our dinner. For the entree, I chose the sea bass 'sustainable catch of the day ' while my wife chose another fish option: the wrapped branzini with jade rice, chamomile cream, fennel, orange and radish salad. Both were excellent! To cap it off, we both chose the strawberry shortcake for dessert. I have to say this was the only missed note with our meal. The portion was perfect, but they use a pound cake instead of a lighter shortcake and the strawberries were a little puny and lacking from what we were expecting. But, that is the potential risk of getting locally grown ingredients which rely on what is in season and the farmer/supplier. The service was very good. The prices are on the higher side, so we will probably reserve this place as a 'special occasions ' option for a meal. However, we enjoyed it and will definitely return. Next time, we 'd like to try their brunch.
We came here for a birthday dinner while visiting KC from Nebraska. I am always looking for unique, local places and this was it. Local, farm-to-table goodness, all in a beautiful castle setting. The staff were the most attentive I've ever had (they were regularly checking our drink levels) and were very polite and helpful. The food was fantastic and they were more than happy to cook my steak longer to make it to my liking. The flavors were so amazing. We ate the key lime pie and s'mores desserts and those were a sweet finale to a wonderful evening. I would highly recommend eating here. FYI, It's gourmet so don't plan to get portions the size of your face.
I have now been here for brunch AND dinner, and on more than one occasion. And I can honestly say that we experienced consistently exceptional service AND food during each visit. Our service this last visit was so exceptional that I was almost in shock. The server had actually remembered us from the last time we were there, AND she recalled my dietary restrictions. When she saw me walk in, she was proactive, and went ahead with consulting the kitchen to determine which sides I might be able to have. The great thing about this place (for ME) is that the menu as is already offers so much variety. Many of the meals are already naturally gluten free, and can be modified for dairy free very easily. The menu is seasonal, so it changes regularly. But I have yet to experience any disappointment or challenges when ordering here. It is SO refreshing. The menu items are very creative and diverse. I feel like there is something for everyone. I mean, if I can find something, and actually have CHOICES on a menu then I can 't imagine how other normal people without all of my limitations, should be able to find not just one thing, but handful of options. The location is beautiful. It is located in a castle. An actual castle. If you enter from the back (where there is plenty of lot parking), you can also see the courtyard patio area, where when weather permits, they do happy hour and food service. Everyone there has managed to make me feel comfortable and safe with my meals, and have gone above and beyond in all respects of the dining experience. Our food has been delicious every time as well. I definitely think it is worth the drive for those folks who may have some sort of aversion to crossing the state line, venturing into Kansas. It isn 't that far, first of all. And even if for you it is, I personally think it is worth the trip. I would recommend checking out the menu online , or calling to inquire as to what the current dishes are, if you are at all super picky, or craving something specific. It is also not a huge space. So reservations might be a good idea. I have had everything from a customized omelet, with sweet potato hash, to bacon brussels sprouts with the fish entree. I have yet to try any desserts. But we have tried some of the cocktails. They even created a special mocktail for me with a house made ginger syrup when I was having a serious ginger craving. I do that on occasion. I hope to make it for happy hour some day. However, I am going to require a driver back to Waldo.

Her Sassy braised beef was about what we get making pot roast at home, except ours isn't so fatty, and my house made collard green and cashew pesto pasta was so salty I had to send it back for the beef. We received our slivers of carrot cake and a cup of coffee, and with a bottle of wine our bill was over $115. We went to a bar and had an appetizer and four cocktails and spent around $30. Wish we had gone there first.
