Contribute FeedbackHodgson's Chippy has garnered a mixed reputation, reflecting a broad spectrum of experiences. While many loyal patrons praise the restaurant for its consistently fresh fish and perfectly crispy chips, others report disappointing visits marked by greasy, soggy fare. Some diners have even encountered alarming issues, including unappetizing hygiene concerns. Yet, for dedicated fans, the homemade tartar sauce, scrumptious potato scallops, and overall quality make the longer drive worthwhile. Though opinions diverge widely, the restaurant remains a popular choice for its warm atmosphere and enduring commitment to the classic fish and chips experience, ensuring its place in the local culinary landscape.
One of the best chippies I have been to. Love their fish and chips. Also veggie burgers and fishcakes. They are always friendly and polite. The shop is spotless. Prices and portions are decent. They do a kiddies menu too. I live virtually opposite so the temptation is great. Not good for my pocket. Or my svelte figure... If you haven't tried them yet, make sure you do so soon!
Just ordered food from this chippy and had to go straight in to the bin. I never eat from a chippy but wanted to try this place. One mouth full and made me vomit. The amount of dirty greese on the food is awful. The fish is definitely not fresh chips are soggy and vile. The curry sauce is cheep nasty powder rubbish. And to those that rave about how amazing this chippy is needs to look at yourself for putting that dirt in your body. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.
Short review: Must visit fish chip in Lancashire, UK. Highly recommended. Detailed review: On our March 2022 trip to Lancaster, Hodgson’s chippy was on our to-do list. It is a multiple award winning chippy, especially at the start of the millennium. We got to know about this place when we were aimlessly flipping across a book titled, ‘Make the most of your time in Britain’ Chapter 111: Tracking down the perfect chippy in Lancashire. This accidental browsing in a way encouraged us to plan our trip to the sleepy county town of Lancaster. Must say, we were impressed by this fryer. Open from noon to 8pm on all days besides Sunday, one could order their meal online with the website being very user friendly. We did not use the app, hence cannot comment. There is no dine in option no delivery. It is a small brown- bricked, curb side pickup located close to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. When you reach the chippy, you are handed a device which bleeps/startles you once your meal is ready. In addition to the specials board, there is a small panel which states the origin variety of the potato and where the cod was caught. The chips, best consumed hot, are giant finger-thick, chunky, creamy and not at all greasy. While writing this review, my mouth has suddenly started salivating, reminiscing about the crunchy breaded haddock and scampi and the mind blowing tartare sauce. The battered cod was tasty and good in its own league, but in a way pales in comparison to the above. Needless to say, the fish was extremely fresh, the food was well seasoned the entire experience was worth the visit. I am still drooling and tempted to drive up to Lancaster and relive this feast. Ah…the power of a great meal!
Absolutely ages since I’ve been to a chippy was not disappointed haddock regular chips £9.40 the freshly fried melts in your mouth, the fluffy chips were excellent.
I only recently discovered this chippy and certainly feel it's better than any others in the city. Lots on the menu, useful opening times and delish food
