I later found out that Bruno the owner, had been very accommodating in organising a menu with my husband, with a choice of great options, that were pre-ordered. The food, wine and service on the evening were fantastic and helped to create an atmosphere that reminded us of times we have spent in Rome, where a meal is an integral part of a celebration. I was delighted with my surprise celebration especially when I realised where I was going and our guests, several of whom had not visited Buccelli's before, were very impressed with the quality of the food and the range of specialist wines available. I want to say a very personal thank you to Bruno for all his help in the secret planning of the evening and to his amazing team of Ben, Bonnie, Jake and Theo for making it a night to remember! For all of you who have never been to Buccelli's, you don't know what you are missing. It's a little piece of Rome in the centre of Lancaster. Whether you go in for lunch, dinner or just a coffee and cannoli, you won't be disappointed!

I found it quite surprising, especially since Mint's own Instagram photos show that shorts don't seem to violate their dress code. This raises questions about why my friend and I were denied entry, given that we were told it was because of my shorts. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, as this experience was quite disappointing.
