Went in for a great dinner with family last night. The restaurant is very quaint and home-like but can seat a good amount of people. We started with the oysters rockafella it was a large portion and they had a great flavor (the oysters were a little more rarer than I would have usually liked but l still wolfed down 3 of them). For dinner I got the stuffed rockfish with creamy Parmesan risotto as a side. It was on poi... View all feedback.
Great food in an amazing historic building. Plus the courthouse, clerk's office, and old jail is amazing. A beautiful small town treasure. The bed and breakfast rooms are lovely. And the character of the old building is well-respected. A historian's delight.
What a gem. Called with no reservation and scored a charming room for the night. We also had a separate sitting room and luscious bathroom. Full of charm, hospitality, comfort, romance and you cannot beat the price. Hearty brunch options for the next day were also included. And the food was delicious. Although we were only passing through for the night, I would relish coming back for a longer stay.
Oysters Po Boy done right! Seriously have one of these, full up with big juicy hot fried oysters with a touch of remoulade and a little tomato if you want. No fuss, no muss, no extra junk just some of the best oysters around. Comes with fries, and a choice of slaw pickled or apple, with a tangy vinegar based sauce, sweetened to even up the tang but not too sweet. I tried with apple slaw, which comes with you guessed it diced apple. Great choice. We were a group of 5, one other had the oyster po boy and one had a seafood lunch platter, both thought it was great. One had the burger, it was juicy and good and thick, and they serve it with whatever you prefer on top, including cheese. The Tavern is obviously a old building, renovated for the restaurant and a very small B&B operation, 2 bedrooms and an adjacent whole house rental. There is a bar and table seating in an attached solarium, and the main dining area, with another smaller dining room that can be closed off from the main room. Again, it is an old old building so expect some wear and tear, smallish bathrooms, etc. The location is fantastic for a combined outing to the Mary Ball Washington museum and historic county buildings, which are directly across the road. Tip: Use the door on the right of the building to enter. The other door on the front goes into the meeting/dining room which might be in use.
This place is great. Totally worth the trip, but a reservation is advisable. We had a table of 4, and everyone in our party was super satisfied. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food.
This is our favorite restaurant in the area. The food and atmosphere are delightful. Brenda and staff do a fantastic job of serving fresh and delicious food with excellent service. Don't miss this historic tavern meal when in Lancaster.
