While visiting Kyoto for vacation, I searched for restaurants and discovered Ryo-sho, and I’m so glad I did. I visited alone and had the pleasure of enjoying the full tasting menu with wine pairing. The restaurant is housed in a very beautiful, traditional Japanese-style building, which I truly admired — it immediately sets the tone for an authentic and elegant experience. The space is intimate, with very few seats (perhaps around 8), making the experience feel personal and special. I was truly amazed by the entire menu. Every dish was beautifully prepared, showcasing the natural flavors of the seasonal ingredients. The precision and care in each plate reflect the chef’s dedication to elevating the ingredients rather than masking them. I thoroughly enjoyed the wine pairing, which complemented each dish perfectly. I would have loved to explore more sake, though I’m not sure if it would have paired as well — something to try next time. The atmosphere is quiet, refined, and deeply immersive, with the chef and staff providing attentive and warm service without being intrusive. Dining here feels like stepping into a world where each moment is carefully curated, from the presentation of the dishes to the thoughtful pairings. Overall, it was a truly memorable experience. I left with a deep appreciation for the skill, elegance, and authenticity of Ryo-sho, and I can’t wait to return for another tasting. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
100/10 would come back. Such a masterful display of fine dining and hospitality. Head Chef Fujiwara at the helm drives the meal with a masterful display of his craft all the while being a very warm and welcoming host. The entire staff was extremely pleasant to interact with and everything we tasted was delightful, fresh and just the right amount. This is amongst the best culinary experiences we've had in the world and we are so happy we got to experience it in an authentic Japanese kaiseki way. Highly recommend this. Plan to spend 2.5-3 hours and make reservations. They did accommodate for dietary restrictions which was really nice. I would actually recommend getting in at 6, as being the first one to sit and interact with everyone felt really special. Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Popped in here to celebrate my birthday with my 3 friends on our Japan trip, and man was it amazing. The single bites of fish I had at this place were easily the best of my life. The chefs were friendly, even helping me with my broken Nihongo which I really appreciated it. I hope I get to return here to eat one day, because they clearly put a lot of time and effort into making sure their guests are taking care of. I really enjoyed getting to try real matcha even though I don't like bitter flavors. It was one for the books. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
