Great service and alternate selections everything was wonderful , the wine light and crisp surprisingly French. We had prefix menu since there was 7 of us...
Server speaks English well to explain menu in German. Price of each dish is a bit high for Germany (around 20 euro for starters and 25-29 euro for main...
Highly recommend a visit to maiBeck. Make sure to book well in advance as walk ins whilst welcome are unlikely to be successful due to the popularity of this restaurant. Menu is changed regularly and features seasonal and fresh produce cooked in an imaginative way. Great tastes and great wines recommend Rosso Toscana. Also try the excellent local Hellers Koelsch beer. Restaurant is comfortable even if a little functional; don't expect linen table cloths but service was impeccable. Attention to detail was clear, shown towards the end of the evening by the staff laying the tables for the next day wearing white cotton gloves to make sure no finger marks on the cutlery or glasses. Price wise I'd consider it good value Michelin star cooking and service at just under €60 for three course meal, glass of wine and coffee at the heart of Cologne old town. Thoroughly enjoyable meal. Will be returning in December.
A sure must visit in Cologne MaiBeck (the names of the 2 chefs) was THE BEST in my 4 restaurant, 4 Michelin stars in my 5 days in Cologne. The food design is youthful and inventive and yet done with classic culinary art. The decor and service are unpretentious. The 2 service ladies are superb and amazingly knowledgeable. I went for the Chef Menu with Wine Pairing. The entree is fresh salmon with a varieties of pickled vegetables. The combination of flavours are simple yet complex at the same time. It all depends how one pick at the plate. I voted this my BEST dish for my entire trip. 2nd is a progression of the first pasta with eggplant and wild rabbit. The texture and unexpectedness of each bite is exciting. My main was a braised veal with a combo of different potatoes. The meat was finely gamey and tender. It was a delight just to taste the sauce. The dessert took me another high. It has all it takes to close the meal. The wines paired superbly with the meal. They are good yet very reasonably priced. A must return place, if I am in Cologne again. Difficult to beat the precision of ingredients and the inventiveness yet classic in many ways. Thumbs up. .
What a fantastic meal we had. We took the set menu and my sister had the wine pairing option. The food was just amazing with the asparagus dish and fish dish being extraordinary. The service is really good and the wine advice fantastic. It is un rushed and relaxed. The meal was not cheap, but amazing quality and very clever in its combinations and beautiful in its preparation.
