Was Anonym at King Fish & Chips a mag?
I'm from the east coast and this was amazing fish and chips. Haddock, pollock, cod, or halibut, you do t get this sort of selection back in Atlantic Canada. Service was fast and the price is right! Great stuff. View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about King Fish & Chips:
We went there Saturday night for dinner. The chips were very good but not so much for the fish. It was just OK. We both ordered halibut. I had one piece and my boyfriend had 2. They were all pre-cut pieces of halibut in little...squares. Then battered and cooked. It was ok but nothing to brag about. I don't see what all the fuss is about this place. I have never, ever had such a small piece of fish at any restaurant.... View all feedback.
We read some positive reviews about King Fish & Chips and decided to give it a try. We arrived shortly after they opened on a very warm Thursday. As others mentioned, parking off Borden St. is limited but we got a spot. We were the first ones in the restaurant and we were seated quickly. There are only seven tables so chose your time carefully if you want to eat in.We ordered some onion rings and they can very quickly. And they were very nice. Both of us ordered the lunch special for Haddock ($7.59!) which consisted of two pieces of Haddock, lots of fries, coleslaw and lemon. The fish had a nice light batter and it was delicious. The portions are generous and we had trouble finishing our mea.The outside of this restaurant isn't very exciting but the inside is nice and cosy. The washroom is rather small and stuffy but adequate.Service was fast and friendly. For two orders of two pieces of Haddock and Chips, one order of Onion Rings and two soft drinks, our bill came to $23.02 (tax included). Recommended for Fish & Chips lovers.
It is our first time at King Fish & Chips after reading reviews. We went early due to the limited parking concerns. Reviews were correct there is very limited parking at the rear off Borden St. The place is not fancy & not very big so I'm sure there are times there will be a line up for seating. It is a family run restaurant, friendly, & clean even though it is in an old house environment. There are several choices for fish, cod, halibut, haddock, & pollock, we had the cod. It was nicely battered & cooked right. The chips were fresh cut & fair quantity. We had an order of onion rings to start & they arrived quickly. For the price the quantity of food was excellent & quality very good. We will go back again wether eat in or take-out. Nice to see a family run restaurant that seems to appreciate your business.
It took us a few months of living in the immediate area (and being new to Kitchener ON) before we discovered this restaurant. It screams "hole in the wall" but it was definitely a hidden gem. The prices are fair and there are a variety of fish options to chose from. It is generally always busy which is a great sign. We did find it very greasy but that was expected. We have only had take out and everything is still hot and crispy when we get home with it. As usual, parking can be a bit of an issue in trying to visit this restaurant but it is worth the trouble. While it does not compare to fish back home (out East), it is the best that we have come by in the city so far. Definitely give it a try if you are in the area! It is great for takeout but it also has some tables to eat in.
I tried cod and halibut for the first time and had fries and coleslaw. It was amazing. I will definitely be going back.
