Description

Bunkers Restaurant in Killorglin offers a varied dining experience. While some patrons praise the delicious meals, like shepherd's pie and fish and chips, others report concerns over service issues, such as being asked to pay upfront, unexpected overcharges, and the presence of bones in battered fish. The bustling atmosphere and welcoming staff are frequently noted, alongside decent portion sizes and reasonable prices. However, some customers express disappointment over specific practices and menu items. Overall, Bunkers presents a blend of delightful meals and service challenges, making it an intriguing stop for visitors exploring the area.

The prices were reasonable, but I was overcharged. We were recommended Bunkers by a local when we asked for a good breakfast spot on the morning of Wednesday, August 10th. It was our first visit. We ordered: 1 Cornflakes with milk for €3; a Continental Choice breakfast (any cereal with ham and cheese croissant and tea/coffee, we chose Cornflakes) for €7.50; a small Irish breakfast with tea/coffee and choice of toast or brown bread for €7.95; and 2 poached eggs with avocado (served separately) and toast for €9.50, also with tea/coffee. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and came with plenty of avocado, though not on the ciabatta as described. The croissant was warm, large, and fresh out of the oven. Portions were generous, and we enjoyed the food. The place was lively around 10:45 a.m. when we left. When paying, the tall, dark-haired young man who served us totaled the bill on the screen. It should have been €27.95, but the charge was €30.95. I pointed out that the continental choice included cereal but I was charged for two separate Cornflakes. He said that was just how it rang up. I asked for a receipt and was given a slip showing only the total paid, with no itemized breakdown. Tip: Make sure you know what you should be paying, question any discrepancies, ask for clear explanations, and request an itemized bill. My rating is affected by the overcharge.

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, while driving the Ring of Kerry, we stopped here for lunch. Bunkers is a spacious restaurant and bar with separate dining areas divided by French-style doors. There’s a coffee shop section and a larger area with a full bar. We both ordered coffee; my wife chose the Deep Fried Brie Salad, and I had the Potato and Leek Soup served with their homemade brown bread. Everything was delicious! It’s a lovely restaurant that seems popular with locals, which is always a great sign. I highly recommend stopping here.

My family and friends visited Bunkers restaurant on August 11th. There were 10 of us, and we had to wait outside for over half an hour due to how busy it was. The doorman, Puk, was very friendly, and eventually, we were seated. We ordered from the menu and received our soups promptly. However, we were shocked when the waitress brought the bill and insisted we pay immediately, even though we hadn’t finished our meal. When we asked about this policy, the staff responded rudely and were unhelpful. We ended up paying €120 for a meal that was spoiled by poor service. We will not be returning to Bunkers and suggest they improve their staff training.

I had a wonderful visit to Bunkers yesterday. They warmly welcomed both me and my support dog, and the beef and Guinness stew we enjoyed was fantastic. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the lively atmosphere felt inviting rather than hectic. I highly recommend Bunkers to anyone seeking a delicious meal in a welcoming setting.

Hi, sorry to leave a negative review, but five of us ordered four full Irish breakfasts on Saturday morning. While the staff were very attentive and friendly, the breakfast itself was disappointing—sausages were undercooked, eggs overcooked, and the toast was burnt and dry. We didn’t mention it at the time because the staff were so nice, but someone really needs to speak to the chef. - Pat
