#29 - Vegetarian - Kettering, Steak, Accepts American Express

Reviews summary

The Vines restaurant presents a mixed bag of experiences for diners. While some guests revel in the charming atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious offerings like Chicken Coq au Vin and a delightful fish sharing platter, others express frustration over slow service, high prices, and disappointing food quality. Issues such as undercooked vegetables and thick, tough steaks detract from the overall experience. Though many appreciate the cozy ambiance and relaxing vibe, particularly during quieter visits, recurring complaints about the service and menu limitations suggest that improvements are necessary for a more consistent dining experience.

I visited the restaurant last Friday evening. The service and quality were excellent. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, which is always a good sign when the restaurant is busy.

We had an excellent lunch yesterday.

I frequently eat here on Steak Nights, and the food is absolutely fantastic! The steaks are delicious, the house rosé wine is exactly to my taste, and the service is...

Quite pricy for mediocre food and an almost bland, forgettable atmosphere. Billed as one of the better quality and certainly pricier restaurants in the area it should offer standout service and food, unfortunately neither were on offer. We ordered the chicken and prosciutto balottene, smoked pork strips with a side of fries. For dessert the Pina Colada posset and triple ice cream. A nice selection but everything was just a bit off. The chicken was overcooked and a little dry requiring a heavy coating of jus to be enjoyable. The fries had an overused oil taste... either the oil needed refreshing or the fryer wasn't hot enough. And the posset was more mousse and the shortbread was inedible leaving a rancid aftertaste. (One of the diners is a professional baker and she was far from impressed by this! The pork strips were nice but not great, the same with the ice cream. All of this was raised with the waiting staff who seemed somewhat disinterested. The decor of the restaurant is ultimately forgettable and almost feels like a cheap knock-off of a chain restaurant. There's a few nice touches, the white gloves used when delivering food to the table is great (not seen since Silver Service training many moons ago , but its offset by the cheaply laminated drinks menus. It obviously wants to be a high class restaurant but unfortunately it stumbles in its execution.

Visited Vines for a meal with my wife. Menu had a good selection, I ordered the suet pie and my wife ordered the lamb nosiettes. The pie was supposed to come with rosemary and thyme mash, which seemed to be missing the rosemary and thyme! The lamb was extremely fatty and came with some additional broccoli (which my wife does not like) and was missing the toasted pine kernels! Generally the service was quite poor and value for money was bad. This restaurant has been going downhill for some time now and the hotel is definitely missing a trick, I don’t think we will be visiting any time soon.

We attended a funeral for a very special lady and the wake was at the vines, I have never been here before and never will again. The food was lovely but wasn't enough for everyone to have a sandwich or a piece of cake and I felt so bad for the lovely family who had lost there mother. They ran out of tea and coffee and had to wait ages for them to fill up. Some of the staff were rude and unhelpful. As this was the first time it certainly was nit a good impression given the circumstances.

Whilst stopping over in the hotel we chose to eat here in the evening. This restaurant had a lovely menu. I had the Chicken Coq auvin, which was delicious! Pannacotta to finish. Ambience was both relaxed and friendly, attentive waiting staff made the experience a pleasure.

Have eaten here a few times over the years, always a good experience. Staff are attentive, and the food very nice. Recommend the steak and ale pudding puff pastry crust was perfect.

I am only giving one star because I have to. The service at this restaurant is awful, the staff is lacking in customer service skills. They cannot even serve you at the bar. I recommend avoiding this place until it reopens under new management. It is a shame because the location is perfect. What a disappointment.

The food was good overall, but I found it odd that the kids' burgers came on a granary seeded bun, which may not be suitable for children. However, the staff were able to switch the buns to brioche, even though they were quite small. It was nice to see them make an effort to fix the issue, which is all you can really ask for.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Even though I used to live nearby, I had never visited before. It's a shame I missed out on such a fabulous place with wonderful staff.

Afternoon Tea was lovely . The sandwiches had good sized sliced bread and filling. The cakes were beautifully decorated and very yummy. The Scones were a great size and we had two each! Service was lovely and attentive. Great time had by 6 of us and we look forward to coming back!

The Beer battered fish and chips tasted lovely and fresh...enjoyed it very much. Lovely greenery view while outside dining even though there was a heavy downpour during dinner being served, it was still a nice dining experience

I recently attended a wedding reception at this restaurant and was impressed by the delicious and plentiful food. The venue was lovely and the good weather made for a perfect combination.

We had a delightful lunch experience overall, although there was a small issue with my friend's main course. The table service was excellent and we enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was quite quiet that day, which affected the atmosphere, but we were told this was unusual. Despite this, we plan to return next week for dinner and are looking forward to it.

This restaurant is amazing, with friendly staff and a beautiful atmosphere where you can enjoy a drink or meal while admiring the stunning interior decor. During the day, you can also appreciate the picturesque gardens and orangery.

We enjoyed our 2 night hotel stay and all our meals were wonderful. Food was plentiful and the staff in the restaurant and bar area were attentive and charming, Waitress Winter always had a smile. Our room very clean and warm and had everything we needed. The Spa was a lovely experience, Lucy showed us round and explained what was available and it was very enjoyable. Loved the Hydropool then chilled and read a book, ideal!

I recently visited the brasserie for a casual meal and drink. I sat in the bar area and found the atmosphere to be relaxing. The food was excellent and the staff were very polite and helpful.

I had a family dinner last night and the dining experience was fantastic. I enjoyed salmon followed by steak. Despite the restaurant being very busy and packed, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Special thanks to our server, Jude, who provided excellent service. I will definitely be returning in the future.

We went to this restaurant for a family dinner and had a fantastic experience! We all enjoyed the delicious salmon mousse as an appetizer, which was filling and tasty. For our main course, we ordered the sirloin steak, which was cooked perfectly and very satisfying. We finished our meal with a refreshing trio of sorbets, all beautifully presented and prepared. The food was hot and freshly made, with top quality ingredients, especially the delicate steak. The service was excellent, particularly our waiter Jude, who was attentive and friendly. We definitely plan on returning to this restaurant based on this wonderful experience. Thank you to The Vines for a lovely evening.

Family dinners were booked for 10 people to celebrate a birthday and a graduation celebration. we arrived at 2.30 a.m. and found that we were going through a huge high-time party that takes up all the bar and restaurant area. only one dame served. drinking for the thirst of men, without leading us, one of us had to fight our way to the restaurant to find a table for 10. only two tables had other diners. Finally we got menus, followed by a request for drinks that arrived 20 minutes later, with a bottle of glittering water delivered for two people in a pint glass! seemingly brittles changed at the high-time square in the room where the bottles were kept! then the meal orders were taken over. the starters began to arrive an hour after our arrival. my starter, a feta watermelon salad, was disgusting. mellon consisted of you small pieces, the pea shoots were yellow and dry and the salat was slim. this was pointed to the waitress who said she would tell the cook, but nothing was said or done. in fairness the most important courses were beautiful, although the whole experience was incredibly long and slow. I sent the manager by e-mail, but got no answer except an automatic confirmation, and another email has only the same answer some two weeks later. obviously, the high time the staff can have put under a load. but that should not mean that restaurant guests should be uncomfortable. the prices of the weeping are high and the standards should match them, and after other reviews, the bad service is not always on high times. we will definitely wait until the reviews go away from the others before we try again.

A retirement and leaving meal arranged for 19.45 for 16 people. Food arrived at 21.30 eventually. One of my colleagues had to leave at 21.15 staff brought her meal out in an ice cream plastic box?and then charged for it on the bill. Food was...over priced and drinks prices extortionate. Two different prices for the same drinks order. I feel well and truly ripped off!!!
