Tannin Wine Kitchen - Kansas City

My husband and another couple of friends enjoyed a fabulous Prix Fixe meal with wine pairings at Tannin. From our FANTASTIC server, Kris S. to the classy and knowledgeable young ladies explaining the wine, to the remarkably delicious food, it was one of the most memorable meals we've ever enjoyed! My husband and I are Francophiles and try to spend a few weeks in France every couple of years (having French friends from Lyon, no less, make it incroyable. One of the things we love most about being there (and Italy and Spain and Portugal are similar are the leisurely meals with just the right portions of food, prepared with fresh ingredients and paired with the exactly right wines. That time spent with friends sharing such a pleasant experience, laughing, talking, making wonderful memories, is incomparable. That's exactly what we experienced at Tannin Wine Bar and Restaurant. Life is short! Live it up!

Last night my friend and I sat at the bar and we both had a delightful time. Brooke and Taylor were gracious, kind, efficient, and cheerful! We will definitely go back to see them. Taylor introduced us to a delicious liqueur at the end of our fantastic steak dinner. Brooke helped us choose a wine that paired well with our steak. 10/10!!

Talor and Rebecca were such great severs! The Cabernet pared so well with the kc strip and. Frites (I got salad) but then I switched to the espresso martini which paired so well with the fudge stuffed peanut butter cookie! Pairings patter and the staff were great!

We’ve visited Tannin Wine Bar Kitchen many times, and we’ve had nothing but great experiences here over the years. The staff is always kind and down to earth, and they serve some of our favorite food in KC with a smaller menu. Kris was our latest terrific waiter. He’s someone you’d love to serve your table every time you go out. It certainly feels like Tannin management sets and maintains a high bar for service with their staff, because they are consistently awesome. We enjoyed the cheese board as an appetizer and ordered the Stuffed Pork Chop and Pesto Genovese Gnocchi for the main courses. The cheese board was solid, per usual, but this was the best pork chop I’ve ever tasted, and the gnocchi was delicious as well. We concluded the meal with the Fudge Stuffed Peanut Butter Cookie, which never disappoints! While this bar is known for its extensive wine menu, we keep coming back because of the food, the service and the atmosphere. I’d highly recommend you ask for a booth in the back — it’s a perfect setting to have a quieter evening and enjoy an excellent dinner!

I can’t let the night end without giving rave reviews for Tannin. I’ve lived in KC for 10 years, and have been to Tannin a handful of times; it’s always a wonderful experience. Tonight, a group of friends and I gathered there to honor and remember our incredible friend, Krystal a Tannin regular, who very recently passed on. The staff, especially Barry and our server, Emma, were the epitome of kindness and warmth. The entire experience from food to drink to atmosphere was truly unlike any service experience I’ve had anytime recently. And not in a flashy, ostentatious way in a welcoming and effortless way, like we were visiting a different time. To make the night even more perfect, one of our friends ended up being proposed to, as a complete surprise to all of us! The staff was absolutely “on it” in the most genuine sense, ready with champagne for all of us to enjoy. The emphasis on community and the making of memories is so apparent at Tannin. Thank you to Barry, Emma, and staff for making our night so special; we will never forget your kindness and we will do our best to pass it on! We’ll be back so soon!
