The village is famous for Sundubu (fresh tofu). The name of this village, Chodang, comes from the name Chodang-Heoyeop. Heoyeop was the public officer of the Joseon Dynasty and also he is the father of Heo-gyun and Heonan-seolheon. He used spring water and salt water from the Baltic Sea to make Sundubu. It was hard to get solid salt at this time because there is no salt pond nearby. The Sundubu tasted well, and he called it Chodang Sundubu with his pen name Chodang . After the public officer community came that he ran a business, he was responsible. For Joseon Dynasty believed in Confucianism and despised commercial activity. It is the origin of today's Chodang Sundubu. It says it's Chodang Sundubu village, but it's more like restaurant area.
