What User doesn't like about Madisen's:
The service is good and I like the setting, but the food is very very inconsistent. You can come away from there either totally satisfied or horribly disappointed. I guess they battle to keep a chef. I gave 3 stars as a sort of "average" (maybe), because we've had both 5-star experiences and 2-star experiences. View all feedback.

This place is inside my favourite hotel, the South Thompson Inn. The staff is great and the drinks fantastic!
We ate here both nights we stayed at the South Thompson Inn as it was very convenient, since it was in the Hotel and there are not a lot of options nearby. It was pretty pricey for the quality of food. The first night parts of my husband's meal were so over peppered that he couldn't even eat it. The steak was very overcooked. The pasta with chicken or shrimp was good but not exceptional. The portions were generous. The second night I had the trout which was also good and I liked the wild rice/grain pilaf that it came with. The deserts were above average. The service was good. The dining room is small and intimate. It was very clean and pleasant.
We were the only guests in the South Thompson Inn, but still offered the complete menu. The menu was personalized, welcoming us by name to the restaurant. Francis, Food & Beverage Manager, greeted us, had our table waiting, asked if I would like to enjoy the same BC wine I had tasted earlier that afternoon (Monte Creek Foch). Another couple arrived about 15 mins later. My husband had the salt & pepper wings, 'the best he had ever tasted'. I had the Kamloops cold water trout in butter & caper sauce. The fish was light, flavourful and the sauce added a very subtle decadence to the trout. The chocolate mousse was our choice for dessert. As earlier reviews stated, it was light, luscious, completely delightful. We enjoyed conversation with the other couple. The gentleman ordered a Bushmills. Francis asked if he could make it for him, which he did, adding an ice cube rather than water. The guest was absolutely gobsmacked by the drink, saying he had never had it so 'perfect'. This guest had the Dijon & Pistachio Lamb Chops and his partner had the Mediterranean Scallops & Prawns for dinner. They both expressed their delight with their meal. In fact, they can't wait to return in March to celebrate his birthday.Francis comes from a long career with Fairmont Hotels and Executive Chef Karen Orr presented the most delicious food. They both are obviously passionate about what they do.Whether you're living in Kamloops or just passing through, you will absolutely love your dining experience at Madisen's at the South Thompson Inn.
